Golf season in full swing as area courses open for 2023
The 2023 season is in full swing as area golf course have once again opened for another season of golf. Here is some information about some of the area’s courses.
NEW ULM
COUNTRY CLUB
NEW ULM — The New Ulm Country Club is an 18-hole, Par-71 golf course that includes a variety of hole layouts along the Cottonwood River and Flandrau State Park, offering a good experience for golfers of all levels.
Covering 6,200 yards, the course is home to many tournaments over the summer, such as this year’s 63rd Invitational from June 9 to June 11. Other tournaments include the New Ulm Eagles Boosters on June 26, the MVL Golf Classic on July 10, N.U.S.E. Hockey on July 14, the B&L Mixer on July 30, the B&L Classic on July 31, the Club Championship from August 2 to August 6, the Cathedral Classic on August 7, the Oak Hills Memorial on August 14, 3M Golf on August 19, the Schell’s Bottle Opener on August 27 and the Schell’s Bottle Cap Open on August 28.
In addition, there is the Tuesday Night League, open for members and non-members of NUCC, and the Sunset League, open for women members and non-members only.
Green fees are $23 for nine holes on weekdays and $25 for nine holes on weekends. The rates jump to $37 for 18 on weekdays and $39 for weekends. Junior nine holes are $10 and $20 for 18 holes.
Cart rentals are $18 per person for 18 holes or $11.50 for nine holes. Tournament carts cost $18 per person to rent, while reciprocal carts cost $30 per person. You can also use the driving range and there are clubs available to rent as well.
The NUCC also has free guest days, where guests of members get their green fees waived. This year they are May 14, June 4, July 17, August 13, Sept. 10, Oct. 8 and Nov. 5.
The New Ulm Country Club is also home to the Cottonwood Grill, which features a large menu of food and beverages to choose from.

SLEEPY EYE
GOLF CLUB
SLEEPY EYE — The Sleepy Eye Golf Club is an affordable, fun and well-maintained nine-hole course golfers can play at that also provides beautiful scenery and challenges along the 2,971-yard course.
It is located just off of Highway 14 west of Sleepy Eye.
The current rates are $17 for nine holes and $26 for 18 holes during the week. Weekday second nine costs $9. Weekend rates are $19 for nine holes and $28 for 18 holes, with a second nine adding $9 to the bill. Cart fees stay at $8 for nine holes per rider and $16 for 18 holes per rider.
There are also Green Fee Specials, including Monday and Thursdays where golfers can play all day with a cart for $30. Students ages 16 and under can golf nine holes for $5.
If golfing with a member of the course, it will cost $13 for nine holes during the week or $18 for 18 holes. During the weekend, the price jumps to $15 for nine holes and $20 for 18 holes. The second nine cost for both is $5.

The Prairie Greens Bar & Grill, located at Sleepy Eye Golf Club, is also open to the public. Whether golfing or not, those interested in a meal, drink and a good time are invited to stop in. There are more than 70 different meals to choose from and the B&G is open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week all year.
The 7th Sleepy Eye Invitational takes place on July 22 this year, with 18/27 holes of individual stroke play.

SPRINGFIELD GOLF COURSE
SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield Golf Course is a nine-hole course located along the Cottonwood River on the south edge of Springfield.
Built in 1956, the course offers tight fairways and mid-sized greens that are sloped back to front for a challenging yet rewarding experience.
Rates are $20 for nine holes and $25 for 18 holes from Monday to Sunday. Cart rentals cost $20 for nine holes and $25 for 18 holes. Back this year for golfers is the opportunity to play additional rounds for $5 each round.
From Monday to Wednesday, the course offers unlimited golf with a cart for $35. The course has 3,134 yards and a course rating of 35.3/130 on black tees.
Springfield Golf Course also offers a punch card for 10 plays, with unlimited play each day for $200. The club also honors reciprocity with other area clubs.

MAYFLOWER GOLF CLUB
FAIRFAX — Established in 1970, the Mayflower Golf Club is a scenic nine-hole, par 36 public golf course.
It’s set on 160 acres and is located 2 1/2 miles south of Fairfax at 46321 County Road 39.
The Mayflower Golf Club features large spaced-out fairways along with the winding Fort Ridgely creek and many wooded areas full of wildlife. The clubhouse is also complete with a full bar & grill and a deck overlooking hole 9.
The club also features a driving range, a practice green and a bar, along with rentals including golf carts, golf boards, pull carts and golf clubs.
The 2023 rates are $14.50 per person for nine holes and $22.50 for 18 holes. The cost of a cart rental is $10.50 for nine holes and $15.50 for 18 holes. Students ages 9-14 can golf nine holes for $7.25 or 18 holes for $11.25. Ages 8 and under golf free.
A punch card that allows 12 rounds of nine-hole golf costs $142.
The seasonal hours are 7 a.m. to sunset from April to October.

MADELIA GOLF COURSE
MADELIA — The Madelia Golf Course is a 9-hole, par 36 course located on the edges of the Watonwan River and Watona City Park in Madelia that opened for the season on May 3.
The challenging course is located just north of the Watonwan County Road 9 exit off of Highway 60.
Green fees are $15 for the first round Monday through Thursday and $10 each additional round. The rates increase to $17 for the first round Friday through Sunday and Holidays and each additional round is $10. Junior golf rates per round for golfers 16 years and under is $10.
Punch cards offered include 10 punches for $115 and 20 punches for $230. A family membership costs $600, while a single membership costs $450 and a senior (65 and older) membership costs $400.
Cart rentals for the first round cost $20, with an additional round adding another $10 to the bill. A valid driver’s license is required to rent a motorized cart. Golf Carts are authorized for use only in the Golf Course area and are not allowed for use in other parts of the Park System.

FARMERS GOLF & HEALTH CLUB
SANBORN — The Farmers Golf and Health Club is a nine-hole, par 36 course established in 1975.
The 6,052-yard course is located at 698 West Central Street in Sanborn and features a driving range, practice area, bar, lounge, dining and banquet facilities.
It’s daily green rates are $15 per person for nine holes and $20 per person for 18 holes. To add a cart, add on $15 for nine holes and $20 for 18 holes.

WINTHROP GOLF CLUB
WINTHROP — The Winthrop Golf Club, located a few miles south of Winthrop and off of Highway 15, is a nine-hole, par 36 course that is friendly towards all golfers, regardless of age or skill level.
The course features 2,912 yards of golf, with a course rating of 34.1 and a slope rating of 114.
The Winthrop Golf Club opens at 8 a.m. daily and the rates start at $13 per person plus tax for nine holes of golf walking. Nine holes with a cart per person costs $22 an hour plus tax. For those wanting to play a full 18 holes, the rates are $20 plus tax per person without a cart and $34 plus tax per person with a cart.
The weekly special is “Wacky Wednesdays,” which is half price green fees. This special does not include golf cart fees.

OAKDALE GOLF CLUB
BUFFALO LAKE — Oakdale Golf Club is an 18-hole public course located in south central Minnesota, 12 miles southwest of Hutchinson.
Its beautiful country setting on Lake Allie also features a full bar & grill with plenty of great food and beverage choices.
Rates this season from Monday to Thursday are $38 for 18 holes with a cart or $24 for 18 holes walking. Nine holes with a cart costs $28, while nine holes walking costs $18.
Friday to Sunday rates run as followed: 18 holes with a cart costs $46, 18 holes walking costs $30, nine holes with a cart costs $33 and nine holes walking costs $22. There is a senior special (ages 60+), where golfers can play 18 holes with a cart for $32 from Monday to Thursday. Ages 15 and under with a paid adult costs $12 anytime, nine holes or 18 walking, while ages 8 and under are free. Prices above do not include tax.

DACOTAH RIDGE

MORTON — This 18-hole championship course has been named one of the best courses in Minnesota.
Designed by nationally acclaimed architect Rees Jones, the course blends in seamlessly with the surrounding prairie landscape. The course is built over 240 acres and features wetlands and Wabasha Creek, spreading across 7,109 yards.
Rates for summer are $69 with a cart Monday through Thursday and $79 with a cart Friday through Sunday. For nine holes, the rates are $36 with a cart Monday through Thursday and $42 from Friday through Sunday. Twilight/junior rates are $49. To replay 18 holes from Monday to Thursday with a cart costs $40, while Fridays to Sundays costs $45 with a cart.
Spring and fall rates are $58 Monday through Thursday and $65 Friday through Sunday, both with a cart. For nine holes, it will cost $30 Monday through Thursday and $34 Friday through Sunday. Twilight/junior rates cost $43. To replay 18 holes from Monday to Thursday with a cart costs $30, while the rate from Friday to Sunday goes up to $40.

NORTH MANKATO — North Links Golf Course is a challenging 18-hole course located two miles west of North Mankato at 41553 520th Street, North Mankato.
