Berkner named All-Tomahawk Softball Player of the Year

Sleepy Eye senior Taylor Berkner was announced the All-Tomahawk Division Softball Player of the Year on Monday.

Berkner was also a unanimously selected player for the All-Tomahawk team and was selected for the third time. Berkner was joined on the team by teammate and unanimous selection Callie Evers, while teammate Jaelynn Schauman was also chosen to the team.

New Ulm Cathedral had Jayde Altermatt, Leah Wilson and Ava Schmid earn unanimous selections to the team, while Abbey Hillesheim also made the team. Wabasso had two unanimous team members in Aylah Jenniges and Audrey Johnson, while Macy Rohlik and Delaina Eis also were named to the team.

Springfield’s Kendall Krueger was a unanimous selection to the team, while teammate Regan Beadell was named to the team. Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s had two unanimous picks for the team in Taylor Mathiowetz and Eva Schweiss, while Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart had Elizabeth Ovitt and Sadie Kirtz make the team.

Honorable Mention picks were New Ulm Cathedral’s Brynn Wilfahrt and Margo Finstad, Sleepy Eye’s Jace Schauman, Wabasso’s Kayleigha Johnson and Peyton Jenniges, Springfield’s Abby Groebner, St. Marys’ Audra Hoffman and Nell Weiss, Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop’s Addison Donnay and Lauren Schafer and Lester Prairie’s Payton Frantsen.

Cathedral was the Tomahawk champion this year with a 14-0 Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Division record. Wabasso’s Tiffany Eichten was named the Tomahawk Softball Coach of the Year.
