Eagles stop Crusaders

NEW ULM — With the playoffs coming up, the New Ulm girls’ soccer team wanted to enter postseason play with a little momentum on its side.

The Eagles (5-8-2) offense dominated Mankato Loyola and defeated the Crusaders 6-0 in a Big South Conference match at New Ulm High School.

Livia Reinarts scored four goals and set the single-season goal-scoring mark with her 21st goal of the season, breaking the previous mark of 21 held by Paige Kalis. Madi Miller had three assists and Mia Johnson had two for the Eagles.

Reinarts scored the first goal on an assist from Miller in the first half and the Eagles led 1-0 at halftime. Reinarts scored the second goal in the second half off of an assist from Johnson and Cadence Okerman scored on an assist from Miller. Anne Howard scored on a free kick and Miller assisted Reinarts’ third goal of the game to make it 5-0. Reinarts added one more goal on an assist from Johnson.

Ellie Dake had six saves, all in the first half. The Eagles open Section 2AA play Tuesday against an opponent to be determined.
