TEL roundup: Essig stages comeback over St. James

ESSIG — The Essig Bluejays erased a 10-0 deficit to come back and win 11-10 against the St. James Athletics Sunday in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game.

The Bluejays scored all 11 of their runs in the eighth inning, with a sacrifice fly by Winsten Nienhaus scoring the go-ahead run

Ben Alfred got the win for Essig, striking out two while allowing six runs, one earned, on four hits and three walks in 2 2/3 innings. Eric Scheibel got the start, allowing four runs, one earned, on seven hits with four strikeouts. Nienhaus got the save, striking out one in a hitless inning.

At the plate for the Bluejays, Hunter Lewandowski was 3 for 5 with an RBI, while Nick Stadick was 1 for 4 with three RBIs. Ben Alfred was 1 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs, while Nienhaus was 2 for 3 with an RBI.

Kolby Kremmin took the loss for the Athletics, allowing two earned runs on one hit and two walks. Jacob Brey made the start, striking out 11 while allowing five runs on eight hits and one walk in 7 1/3 innings. At the plate, Connor Jones was 3 for 5 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Bransen Petersen and TaShawn Parker each had two hits and an RBI.

Essig (2-2) travels to Fairfax on Wednesday. St. James (1-6) travels to Sleepy Eye on Wednesday.

Lamberton 9, Sleepy Eye 3

SLEEPY EYE — The Lamberton Long Sox defeated the Sleepy Eye Indians 9-3 in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game on Sunday.

Eli Fest got the win for the Long Sox, striking out three while allowing two earned runs on four hits and three walks in five innings. At the plate for Lamberton, Luke Willhite was 3 for 5 with two runs scored, while Neil Eichten was 2 for 5 with a home run, four RBIs and a run scored. Isaac Jenniges and Colby Wall each had two hits.

Nick Mielke took the loss for Sleepy Eye, striking out one while allowing six earned runs on 11 hits and two walks in 6 1/3 innings. At the plate, Owen Weiss was 2 for 4, while Cody Schultz was 1 for 2 with a home run and three RBIs in his amateur baseball debut. Jake Mielke had a hit and two RBIs.

Lamberton (3-1) travels to Hanska on Wednesday. Sleepy Eye (2-4) hosts St. James on Wednesday.

Stark (3-2) defeated Gibbon (1-4) 14-2 in seven innings of TEL action on Sunday in Stark, while Fairfax (2-5) rolled to a 20-5 win over Searles (0-5) in seven innings in Fairfax. No statistics were reported for these games.
