UW-Superior sweeps MLC

SUPERIOR, WI — The Martin Luther College softball team was swept on the road by UW-Superior 11-1, 12-0, and 12-1.

UW-Superior 11, MLC 1 (5 Innings)

The Yellowjackets stormed out to a 6-1 lead after two innings, thanks to a five-run bottom of the first. MyKenzie Leccia came up with a bases-clearing double to left field to get their big inning going.

From there, UW-Superior tacked on one run in the third and four in the fourth frame to take the game one win on Tuesday.

The MLC run came in the top of the second off of an Olivia Siehr RBI groundout.

UW-Superior out-hit the Knights 14-4 and Samantha Swartz picked up the win on the mound for the Yellowjackets.

UW-Superior 12, MLC 0 (5 Innings)

The Yellowjackets began Wednesday with more of the same offensively and strung together six runs on seven hits in the bottom of the first frame. UW-Superior followed that up with five additional runs in the second to go up 11-0.

MLC was held to just two hits, as Jessica Horn and Sarah Yonkovich recorded one apiece. Horn would start the game on the mound for the Knights and Lisa Hoffer came in to pitch the remaining three innings.

UW-Superior 12, MLC 1 (5 Innings)

UW-Superior finished the sweep of MLC by scoring all of their 12 runs in the second and third combined. Zoe Thomson and Indigo Fish notched RBI doubles in the second to lead the way for their team’s seven-run bottom of the second.

Fish hit another RBI double to right center field in the third as they beat the Knights in five innings for a third consecutive contest.

Jordyn Heckendorf brought in Yonkovich with a sacrifice fly to center field in the top of the third. Horn was limited on the mound once again, as the junior will have to go back out there to pitch in the Knights’ doubleheader tomorrow at Crown. The two games will start at 3 and 5 p.m. in St. Bonifacius and MLC wraps up the season on Saturday, April 27, in a single game at 12 p.m.
