TEL roundup: Essigs wins over Gibbon in eight

SUNDAY

ESSIG 10, GIBBON 0 (8 INNINGS)

GIBBON — The Essig Bluejays defeated the Gibbon Reds 10-0 in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game on Sunday.

Winsten Nienhaus earned the win for Essig, striking out three and allowing no runs on two hits and two walks in eight innings. At the plate, Zach Riederer was 3 for 5 with five RBIs, while Jay Helget was 2 for 4 with a home run. Josh Forstner added a hit and two RBIs, while Erick Prokosch had two hits.

Dominic Rose took the loss for Gibbon, striking out four and allowing six runs, five earned, on six hits in four innings. At the plate, Aaron Bruns and Rose each had a hit.

Essig (3-10) hosts New Ulm on Wednesday, while Gibbon (5-7) plays at Leavenworth on Wednesday.

SLEEPY EYE 3, ST. JAMES 1

SLEEPY EYE — The Sleepy Eye Indians downed the St. James Athletics 3-1 in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game on Sunday.

Nick Mielke earned the complete-game win for Sleepy Eye, striking out eight and allowing one unearned run on seven hits. At the plate, Cody Schutlz had a two-RBI double, while Tyler Mathiowetz had a hit and an RBI.

Jacob Brey took the loss for St. James, striking out four and allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks. At the plate, Connor Jones was 3 for 4 with an RBI, while Brad Moldan had two hits and a run scored.

Sleepy Eye (5-7) plays at Springfield on Friday, while St. James (3-9) plays at Lamberton on Friday.

LAMBERTON 8, SEARLES 3

SEARLES — The Lamberton Long Sox scored eight runs in the top of the ninth inning to win 8-3 over the Searles Grizzlies in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game on Sunday.

A bases-loaded RBI from Hudens Jenniges opened the scoring, then Jake Wahl hit a grand slam. Neil Eichten later hit a bases-clearing double to round out the scoring.

Jackson Jenniges earned the win for Lamberton, striking out fiev and allowng no runs in four innings. Wahl finished 3 for 5 with his grand slam.

No statistics were reported for Searles.

Lamberton (7-5) hosts St. James on Friday, while Searles (5-7) plays at Hanska on Wednesday.

FRIDAY

STARK 9, FAIRFAX 0

FAIRFAX — The Stark Longhorns defeated the Fairfax Cardinals 9-0 in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game on Friday.

John Kopacek earned the win for Stark, striking out seven and allowing no runs and no walks with 11 hits in nine innings. At the plate, Dusty Mangen was 3 for 3 with two RBIs, while Kessler Severson was 3 for 4 with two runs scored. Zach Haala had two doubles and three RBIs, and Adrian Saenz had two hits and two RBIs. Tyler Siefert added two hits and an RBI.

No statistics were reported for Fairfax.
