Ranweiler bros power Brewers past Indians in 7

SLEEPY EYE — Cole and Hunter Ranweiler’s home runs in the sixth and seventh innings helped the New Ulm Brewers top the Sleepy Eye Indians 12-2 in seven innings at Eagles Park Saturday.

The win puts the top-seeded Brewers into the Region 2C Amateur Baseball Tournament winners bracket semifinals against fourth-seeded Courtland Saturday, Aug. 6 at Memorial Park in Fairfax. Gametime will be determined later this week.

“Our relief pitching was good,” Brewers coach Al Flor said after the game. “It took our hitters a while to get going, but they finally did.”

Cole Ranweiler’s two-run homer to left-center put the Brewers up 7-2 in the fifth. Hunter Ranweiler tripled in the third and ended the game in the seventh with a two-run blast.

Brewers starting pitcher Wade French fanned five Sleepy Eye hitters and allowed six hits in five innings.

Mitch Bockenstedt relieved him in the sixth and did not allow a hit.

Josh Seidl had three hits for New Ulm.

Luke Mielke pitched six innings for Sleepy Eye. Alex Woitas and Dan Krzmarzick pitched the final two innings.

Alan Woitas had two hits for Sleepy Eye.

Sleepy Eye moves into the loser bracket, facing Gibbon at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 31 at Fairfax.

Other Region 2C tournament games Saturday included Courtland defeating fifth-seeded Springfield 10-2, third-seeded Lamberton beat sixth-seed Leavenworth 5-0 and seventh-seeded Hanska edged second-seeded Stark 5-4.

Other Sunday, July 31 loser bracket games at Fairfax are Essig vs. Springfield at 11 a.m., Searles vs. Stark at 4:30 p.m. and Fairfax vs. Leavenworth at 7 p.m.
