Area roundup: New Ulm boys’ hockey downs Windom, Indians top SJA

New Ulm 6, Windom 1

WINDOM — New Ulm downed Windom Area 4-1 on Monday night in a nonconference boys’ hockey game.

Braxten Hoffmann had two goals and three assists to lead the Eagles, while Austin Uecker had a a goal and three assists. Blake Soukup added a goal and one assist also for New Ulm, while Jack Albrecht had a goal and two assists and Taylor Hansen had a power-play goal.

Dawson Sellner made 23 saves in net for New Ulm.

New Ulm (13-5) hosts Fairmont on Tuesday.

Girls’ Basketball

Sleepy Eye 79, SJA 64

ST. JAMES — Sleepy Eye topped St. James Area 79-64 on Monday night in a nonconference girls’ basketball game.

The Indians were led by Kadence Hesse’s 27 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, while Brea Mertz had 22 points and eight rebounds. Kaydince Thoms added 15 points and seven boards for Sleepy Eye, while Brooklyn Moldan had 10 points and four assists.

Sleepy Eye (15-2) is at Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Tuesday.

Nicollet 57, Cleveland 46

NICOLLET — Nicollet defeated Cleveland 57-46 on Monday night in a Valley Conference girls’ basketball game.

The Raiders were led by Marah Hulke’s 20 points, six rebounds and four steals, while Josi Hansen had 10 points and five assists. Hayley Selby scored 8 points and grabbed 17 rebounds also for Nicollet, while Hatti Hansen had 11 points.

Cleveland was led by Kaylee Karels’ 24 points.

Nicollet (10-7, 8-3) hosts Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial on Thursday.

GFW 58, Sibley East 51

WINTHROP — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop topped Sibley East 58-51 in nonconference girls’ basketball action.

Brynn Busse led GFW 24 points and five assists, while Morgan Aylsworth added 13 points.

For Sibley East, Morgan Halquist had 18 points and Teagan Biron had 11.

GFW (9-8) is at Springfield on Tuesday.

Alden Conger 64

MADELIA — Ja’Sean Glover’s 42-point, 19-rebound double-double led Madelia by Alden-Conger 79-64 on Monday night in Valley Conference boys’ basketball action.

Glover also had eight steals and four assists, while freshman Hayden Jones added 13 points off the bench.

Madelia (4-5) is at Martin County West on Tuesday.
