NEW ULM — Worthington brought its bats and strong arm of Haley Grimmius to New Ulm High School on Thursday, shutting out the Eagles 12-0 in five innings of Big South Conference softball action.

Grimmius pitched all five shutout innings for Worthington (11-3, 5-2) in the win, striking out 10 and allowing two hits without a walk. Grimmius also had three hits and two RBIs at the plate.

Worthington’s Sophie Wietzema, Hannah McNab and Presley Sieve also each had three hits apiece for the Trojans, with Wietzema adding three RBIs.

Miranda Suess took the loss for the Eagles (8-9, 5-4) in 1 1/3 innings of work, giving up five hits and two walks for six runs. Eighth-grader Ramsey Hopp and senior Amber Gleisner each had a single for the Eagles.

Worthington started off the first inning with four runs on a pair of hits and a pair of New Ulm errors. The Trojans added two more runs in the second to lead 6-0 on a two-run double by Sieve to left-center field.

New Ulm’s first hit of the day came off the bat of Hopp on a two-out bloop single to center in the bottom of the second. Gleisner then followed that hit up with a bunt single before Grimmius forced a popout to end the inning.

The Trojans added three more runs in the third, led by a two-run double from Grimmius, and then three more runs in the fourth on a trio of hits and an error for a 12-0 lead.

The Eagles will look to snap a three-game skid and get redemption when they travel to Worthington on Monday.
