GIRLS TENNIS
New Ulm 4, Marshall 3
MARSHALL — New Ulm downed Marshall 4-3 in a Big South Conference girls tennis meet on Tuesday.
For New Ulm, Lilly Kral defeated Kyra Bailey 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 singles, while Avah Kruse downed Cora Medina 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 singles. Kaylee Evans and Everly Batt defeated Jazilyn Stenbury-Jones and Emery Jans 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Lydia Osborne and Maggie Joyce topped Julia Parto and Illianaa Bautista by default at No. 2 doubles.
GIRLS SOCCER
New Ulm 4, TCU 1
MONTGOMERY — New Ulm defeated Tri-City United 4-1 in a Big South Conference girls soccer match on Tuesday.
Allie Nelson had a hat trick in the game, while Jesalyn Skoglund added the other goal. Marlena Kral and Amelia Hinkle each had an assist. Ellie Dake had eight saves.
New Ulm (8-3-2) hosts St. Peter on Thursday.
PREP VOLLEYBALL
New Ulm 3, Waseca 0
WASECA — New Ulm swept Waseca 25-13, 25-15, 25-13 on Tuesday night in a Big South Conference volleyball match.
The Eagles were led in victory by Brooklyn Lewis, who had 10 kills, while Lauren Schmiesing had four kills and four blocks and Lauren Hintz had 18 digs. Lily Poehler added 13 set assists and 12 digs for New Ulm, while Izzy Longtin had five assists.
New Ulm (7-14, 1-4) hosts St. James Area in nondivision action on Thursday.
Cedar Mountain 3, Wabasso 2
MORGAN — Cedar Mountain downed Wabasso 18-25, 20-15, 25-16, 27-25, 15-7 in a Tomahawk Division volleyball match Tuesday.
Kendra Erickson led the Cougars with 25 kills, 16 set assists and 13 digs, while Reagyn Kleinschmidt had 12 kills, 20 set assists and 10 digs. Aubrey Steffl had 11 kills and 16 digs.
For Wabasso, Kenley Guetter had 13 kills, 18 digs and five aces, while Camryn Irlbeck had 13 kills and two blocks. Audrey Johnson had 15 digs, and Sara Calrson had 45 set assists and two blocks. Carly Fenger addd 11 kills and three blocks.
Cedar Mountain (9-4, 3-2) travels to Springfield on Thursday, while Wabasso (10-9, 2-3) travels to Lester Prairie on Thursday.
GHEC/T/ML 3, St. Mary’s 2
TRUMAN — Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther topped Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 23-25, 13-25, 25-20, 26-24, 16-14 in a Tomahawk-Valley Conferece crossover volleyball match on Tuesday.
Morgan Mathiowetz had 17 kills and 18 digs, while Reese Hoffmann had nine kills and 19 digs. Audra Hoffmann had nine kills, Natalie Fischer had 21 digs, Brynne Ibberson had 15 digs and Josie Helget had 40 set assists.
St. Mary’s (10-4) hosts Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in a Tomahawk game on Thursday.
LCWM 3, MVL 0
NEW ULM — Minnesota Valley Lutheran was swept by Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial on Tuesday in a South Central volleyball match, falling 25-18, 25-10, 25-19.
Jenna Bates led the Chargers with eight kills, three blocks, five digs and two aces, while Olivia Hammer had six kills and Tori Ringen had three kills. Graysie Black had 10 set assists also for MVL, while Nora Krueger had nine set assists and Taryn Gunderson had 20 digs.
MVL (10-10, 3-3) is at Maple River for another conference matchup on Thursday night.
Lester Prairie 3, Sleepy Eye 0
SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye was swept at the hands of Lester Prairie on Tuesday in a Tomahawk Division volleyball match.
Sam Price led Sleepy Eye with 12 kills, nine digs and two blocks, while Jaelynn Schauman had five kills and two blocks, Callie Evers had four kills and Hannah Meyer had 14 set assists, three kills and two blocks.
Sleepy Eye is at New Ulm Cathedral on Thursday night for another Tomahawk matchup.
BLHS 3, GFW 0
WINTHROP — Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart swept Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 25-18, 25-17, 25-10 on Tuesday in a Tomahawk Division volleyball match.
GFW was led by Chloe Henrichs’ six kills and Ella Nachreiner’s five kills and eight blocks. Natalie Ahlbrecht added five blocks and 11 assists for GFW, while Kinley Bruns and Lauren Schafer each had nine digs.
No statistics were reported for BLHS by the time this edition of The Journal went to press.
GFW (0-13, 0-5) is at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Thursday, while BLHS (21-1, 5-0) is at Wabasso on Tuesday.
JWP 3, Nicollet 0
JANESVILLE — Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton swept Nicollet 25-18, 25-16, 28-26 in a nonconference volleyball match on Tuesday.
Kamryn Truebenbach had seven kills and 22 digs, while Payten Otto had six kills and 12 digs. Maddison Kettner had 12 set assists and 14 digs, and Lydia Martens had 12 set assits.
Nicollet hosts Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther on Friday.
LSH 3, Sibley East 0
ARLINGTON — Le Sueur-Henderson swept Sibley East 25-17, 25-19, 25-17 in a South Central Conference volleyball match on Tuesday.
Emme Eccles had seven kills and a block for Sibley East, while Bridget Biron had nine kills, two aces and three kills. Harper Drexler had 12 set assists and two kills.
Sibley East (1-11, 0-6) plays at Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial on Thursday.
PREP CROSS-COUNTRY
SM/SE/NUC boys take 5th in St. James
ST. JAMES — The Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s/Sleepy Eye/New Ulm Cathedral boys cross-country team took fifth out of seven teams on Tuesday at the St. James Cross-Country Invitational.
The New Ulm boys also competed at the meet and took seventh.
The SM/SE/NUC boys were led by Max Fischer, who took eighth with a time of 18:59.32, while Levi Hagen took 11th with a time of 19:16.84.
The New Ulm boys were led by Jack Oswald, who took 46th (25:53.78), while Benjamin Oswald took 49th (27:00.51).
The Madelia boys took second at the meet, led by Devin Hanson (18:48.19, 6th) and Caleb DeCann (19:06.82, 9th). The Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial-Nicollet boys took fourth at the meet, led by Aidan Moeller (18:45.79, 4th) and Charlie Gengler (18:46.29, 5th).
All area girls teams at the meet were incomplete, but the SM/SE/NUC girls were led by by two, top-10 finishers in Emma Hagen (22:41.98, 4th) and Millie Lax (23:10.79, 5th). The New Ulm girls saw Megan Gauert take 13th (24:29.99), while the LCWM/Nicollet girls were led by Ellie Bergemann (26:35, 24th) and Emma Kuehn (27:10.83, 28th).
