NEW ULM — Sam Keckeisen’s two-run homer in the fourth inning put the New Ulm Brewers up 3-2 over the Leavenworth Orioles, a lead they never relinquished to win 5-2 in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game on Military Appreciation Night.
Mitch Bockenstedt earned the win for New Ulm, striking out six and allowing two runs on six hits in six innings. Tate Becker pitched the remaining three innings, striking out nine of the 10 batters he faced and walking the other. At the plate, Keckeisen was 2 for 3 with his home run, a double and three RBIs, while Zach Hubbard was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Justin Hoffmann had a hit and an RBI.
Caden Evers took the loss for Leavenworth, striking out two and allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits in five innings. At the plate, Jackson Huiras had two-RBI home run, while Austin Uecker was 2 for 3. Carson Uecker had a hit and a run scored.
Hoffmann drove in the first run of the game in the bottom of the first, singling to bring home Colton Schaefer. Carson Uecker’s single set up Huiras’s two-run homer in the top of the fourth inning, but Keckeisen quickly responded with his home run in the bottom of the inning, bringing home Cole Ranweiler for a 3-2 lead.
New Ulm added two more runs on a Hubbard single and a Keckeisen double in the sixth for a 5-2 lead. Becker shut down the rest of the game with his nine strikeouts in the final three innings.
