NEW ULM – On Wednesday, members of the New Ulm Medical Center (NUMC) leadership team formally accepted a 2025 Top Performers from Vizient, a health care performance improvement company that provides data, analytics and advisory services.
For the last 20 years, Vizient administered the Quality and Accountability Study using data from over 1,400 health care facilities. In 2025, the study identified NUMC as a top 13 critical access hospital.
Jamie Logsdon and Justin Fuller with Vizient presented the award to NUMC director of patient care, Jennifer Brehmer.
“These awards do not happen by chance,” Logsdon said. “It takes leadership and discipline to happen.
Fuller said the quality and accountability study rankings are determined based on five areas, including; safety, efficiency, effectiveness, centering of patients and mortality rate.

Fuller said the rankings are further classified based on the type of health care facility. NUMC was ranked among a cohort of over 150 critical access hospitals. He said NUMC actually ranked ninth best overall.
“NUMC is performing higher than most of its cohorts,” Logdson said.
Brehmer said it was really exciting to receive the award.
“We are really proud of our team and the high quality of care we give,” she said.
Mallory Koshiol, vice-president of safety, quality and experiences for Allina Health further praised the NUMC team, saying this one of several awards they have received. The National Rural Health Association awarded them a Top 20 Critical Access Hospital in 2025. NUMC also scored in the top 100 of Chartis Center for Rural Health’s critical access hospitals. The medical center is a 13-time recipient of this award.
“What we’re seeing here is a strong culture of care,” Koshiol said.
Brehmer agreed that NUMC team and a culture of collaboration between physicians led to high honors like this.
