Area roundup: Raiders’ rally falls short against Mavericks

WELCOME — Martin County West defeated Nicollet 10-8 in a Valley Division softball game on Thursday.
Down 10-4 after four innings, the Raiders got a run in both the fifth and sixth innings before adding two more in the seventh before falling short.
Leah Bode took the loss, striking out three while allowing 10 runs on 21 hits. At the plate, Bode was 2 for 4 with a double and three runs scored in the game, while Taylor Wilking was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Jazmyn Goettlicher had a single and two RBIs.
Nicollet (0-1) travels to Cleveland on Saturday.
SJA 8, Madeila 0
ST. JAMES — St. James Area shut out Madelia 8-0 in a nonconference softball game on Thursday.
Peyton Bruns took the loss for Madelia, striking out one while allowing four runs on four hits in three innings. Grace Tatro and Kellie Koberoski each got a hit in the game for the Blackhawks.
Madelia (1-1) hosts Cleveland on Tuesday.
