Area roundup: SEU boys win at Knight invite

PREP GOLF

SEU BOYS TAKE FIRST AT KNIGHT INVITATIONAL

TYLER — The Sleepy Eye United boys placed first out of nine teams at the Knight Invitational prep golf meet on Friday.

SEU won with a score of 313, followed by Minneota (317), Luverne (318), Dawson-Boyd (321), Lac qui Parle Valley (323), Southwest Minnesota Christian (351), Canby (351), Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (356) and Heron Lake-Okebena/Fulda/Westbrook-Walnut Grove (359).

Dawson-Boyd won the girls side of the meet (346), followed by RTR (396), Luverne (399), SEU (430), Canby (430), HLO/F/WWG (446) and Minneota (462).

SEU’s Nolan Kucera was the boys medalist, scoring a 69. Blaine Arneson placed 13th (80), Isaac Christensen placed 14th (81), and Anders Coulson finished 16th (83).

Sam Price led the SEU girls with a ninth-place finish (94). Kiara Murphy placed 15th (99), Liz Currans placed 33rd (118) and Ella Pollard placed 35th (119).

PREP BASEBALL

LOYOLA 9, MADELIA 8

MANKATO — Madelia lost a close one to Mankato Loyola on Friday night, falling 9-8 in a Valley Division baseball game.

Madelia was led by Noel Davila, who was 2 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Zach Jacobs was 2 for 4 with two doubles and two runs scored, Bryce Borkenhagen was 1 for 4 with a double and two RBIs and Tate Becker was 1 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Jacobs took the loss in one inning, allowing one hit for one unearned run.

Madelia (15-2, 5-1) is at Nicollet for a Valley Division doubleheader on Monday.

SIBLEY EAST 7, TRITON 4

TRITON — Sibley East topped Triton 7-4 in a nonconference baseball game on Friday.

Aiden Bauer earned the win for the Wolverines, striking out five and allowing one run on four hits in four innings. At the plate, Will Feterl was 3 for 4 with four RBIs, while Riley Bussler was 2 for 3 with three runs scored.

Sibley East (11-4) plays at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Monday.

PREP SOFTBALL

MCW 16, MADELIA 0 (4 INNINGS)

MADELIA — Martin County West defeated Madelia 16-0 in a Valley Division softball game on Friday.

Addison Odegard took the loss for Madelia, striking out three and allowing five earned runs on 11 hits in four innings. Emmy Johnson had the lone hit for the Blackhawks.

Madelia (5-14, 2-6) hosts Cleveland on Monday.

NEW ULM BOYS, GIRLS WIN IN SLEEPY EYE

SLEEPY EYE — The New Ulm boys and girls track and field teams both won their sides of a track and field invite at Sleepy Eye High School on Thursday.

The New Ulm boys scored a 162 and were followed by Wabasso (130), River Valley (125), Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/ML (59), Westbrook-Walnut Grove (35) and Yellow Medicine East (35). The New Ulm girls won with a 204, followed by River Valley (141.5), WWG (67), Wabasso (60), GHEC/T/ML (37.5) and YME (16).

Leading the New Ulm boys was Hunter Heil, who took first in the 100 (11.65), fourth in the 200 (24.32) and was on the 4×100 relay team that took first (45.86) with Benton Seidl, Jace Lohman and LenDale Dunmars. Jamison Portner took second in the 100 (11.92), third in the 200 (24.24) and was in the 4×200 relay team that took first (1:32.25) with Jackson Ocampo, Michael Hames and George Gag. Gag also took first in the 200 (23.5) and first in the 400 (51.12) and first in the high jump (5-8), while Hames took second in the 400 (51.98), Brody Helget took fourth in the 110 hurdles (20.13), Silas Trautmiller took fifth in the 110 hurdles (20.20) and Sabastian Gusso took fourth in the 300 hurdles (47.73). The boys 4×400 relay team of Ocampo, Jayden Broste, Gusso and Brody Powers also won with a time of 3:46.64. Finally for the New Ulm boys, Lincoln Haime took fourth in the shot put (38-1), while Joseph Wise took third in the high jump (5-4), Noah Mertz took fourth in the high jump (5-2) and third in the triple jump (36-7.5), Joshua Gordon took second in the pole vault (10-6), Broste took third in the long jump (18-0) and Dunmars took second in the triple jump (37-1.25).

The New Ulm girls had several top-five finishers as well. Allie Nelson took third in the 100 (14.42), while Estelle Fischer took fourth in the 100 (14.5), Jesalyn Skoglund took third in the 200 (28.87), Brenley Nordby took fourth in the 200 (29.12), Brecken Wendinger took fourth in the 400 (1:07.02), Mazy Kitzberger took second in the 800 (2:46.28), Amelia Hinkle took second in the 1,600 (6:07.08), Megan Gauert took second in the 3,200 (14:18.64) and Violet Beranek took third in the 3,200 (17:25.86). Isabelle Longtin won the 100 hurdles (18.05), while Kiyla Kolden was second in the event (19.25) and Delilah Henrichs took fifth (22.7). Kolden also took second in the 300 hurdles (54.96), while Longtin took third in the 300 hurdles (55.43). The girls 4×100 relay team of Joleigh Engel, Nelson, Alissa Hoffmann and Beranek took first (54.43), while the 4×200 relay team of Fischer, Zoey Havemeier, Beranek and Nordby took first (1:53.44). The girls 4×800 relay team of Gauert, Gracie Barie, Kitzberger and Hinkle also took first (10:51.8). Ellie Dake took first in the shot put (33-3) and first in the discus (87-2), while Henrichs took fifth in the discus (74-0). Skoglund also took first in the high jump (5-0), while Kolden took third in the high jump (4-8), Sophia Berger took first in the pole vault (10-1) and Engel took third in the pole vault (7-6). Kaylee Evans and Longtin took third (14-5.5) and fifth (13-7), respectively, in the long jump, while Evans took second in the triple jump (31-8) and Berger took fourth in the triple jump (29-3.5).

The River Valley boys saw McCoy Marti took fifth in the 200 (25.08), Matthew Fernandez take third in the 400 (54.95) and Dylan Dewitt take first in the 800 (2:13.31) and second in the 1,600 (4:57.06). Bryan Buerkle took fifth in the 800 (2:21.64), while Oziel Lozano took third in the 1,600 (5:20), while Levi Hagen took second in the 3,200 (11:16.46), Cameron Moore took second in the 300 hurdles (44.08), Elijah Hoffman took fifth in the 300 hurdles (44.08) and the 4×800 relay team of Isaac Lopez, Lozano, Carlos Rengel and Gio Fernandez took first (10:23.97). Carter Dent took second in the shot put (39-9), while Hayden Zeig took third in the shot put (39-2), Conner Kyllonen took second in the discus (119-9), Dent took fourth in the discus (113-6), Moore took fifth in the high jump (5-0), Noah Rossbach took third in the pole vault (9-6), Josiah Siefkes took fifth in the pole vault (8-0) and Jony Flores took fifth in the long jump (17-0.5) and fifth in the triple jump (36-3.5).

The River Valley girls saw Aleigha Bickhardt took second in the 100 (14.31), while Marley Hewitt took first in the 200 (27.05 and first in the 400 (1:01.01). Millie Lax took fifth in the 200 (29.17), while Farrah Dauer took third in the 400 (1:06.7) and first in the 3,200 (12:59.94), Ali Almanza took fifth in the 800 (2:54.77) and Emma Hagen took third in the 1,600 (6:08.87). Esther Bislew and Inara Andres took third (21.33) and fourth (22.23), respectively, in the 100 hurdles, while Camryn Maher took first in the 300 hurdles (54.24). The River Valley girls 4×400 relay team of Brynne Ibberson, McKenna Ibberson, Lydia Dauer and Hewitt took first (4:26.07), while Yuridia Fernandez took fifth in the shot put (28-6) and third in the discus (81-10), Ayvah Wendt took fourth in the discus (75-0), Liana Kimbrough took fifth in the high jump (4-6), Lydia Dauer took second in the pole vault (8-0), Alana Rieke took fourth in the pole vault (6-6), Hewitt took first in the long jump (16-6.5) and Karis Horn took third in the triple jump (30-4).

The Wabasso boys had Nolan Leopold finish top five in three individual events as he took fourth in the 100 (12.08), second in the 200 (24.22) and fifth in the 400 (56.38), while Bryson Kampsen took second in the 800 (2:16.65) and Andrew Morin took first in both the 1,600 (4:42.87) and 3,200 (10:20.84). Tyson Lightfoot took second in the 110 hurdles (17.57) and first in the 300 hurdles (43.87), while Brillin Wagner took first in both the shot put (41-3) discus (127-9). Wyatt Brockberg took second in the high jump (5-6), while Tavyn Larson took first in the long jump (18-9.5) and Zeke Olson took second in the long jump (18-2).

The Wabasso girls saw Elsie Leopold run for a first-place finish in the 800 (2:28.09), while Addison Struntz took fifth in the 1,600 (6:53.64), Lexi Lightfoot took fifth in the 300 hurdles (1:04.42) and Madelyn Fogelson took third in the shot put (30-8). Liz Morin finished fourth in the high jump (4-6), second in the long jump (15-3.5) and first in the triple jump (32-3).

MVL/NUC RUNS AT LCWM/N

LAKE CRYSTAL — The Minnesota Valley Lutheran/New Ulm Cathedral girls track and field placed third out of five teams while the boys team placed fourth in a nonconference track and field meet on Thursday.

Tri-City United won the girls side of the meet (159), followed by Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial/Nicollet (123), MVL/NUC (49.5), Martin County West/Butterfield-Odin (37) and Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton/Waterville-Elysian-Morristown (4.5). On the boys side, LCWM/N won (158), followed by TCU (122), MCW/BO (45), MVL/NUC (35) and JWP/WEM (7).

For the MVL/NUC girls, Tiphany Dos Santos placed fifth in the 100-meter dash (14.10, while Natalie Matzke won the 800m (2:33.74), with Natalia Wald placing fifth (2:54.13). Matzke also won the 1,600m (5:49.47), with Elizabeth Fischer taking fourth (6:19.04). Juliet Langsjoen placed third in the 100m hurdles (18.21), with Rebekah Vlieger coming in fifth (19.35). Rebekah Vlieger also placed third in the 300m hurdles (52.86), with Langsjoen placing fourth (55.81) and Emma Grundmeier taking fifth (56.54). Claire Beranek finished fourth in high jump (4-03), and Mollie Berdan placed third in pole vault (8-0). Elise Trebesch took fifth in triple jump (24-10).

For the MVL/NUC boys, Ben Riesgraf placed second in the 100m (11.710, while Max Fischer placed second in the 800m (2:25.58). Elliot Vlieger placed third in the 3,200m (13:01.87), Adrian Henry took third in discus (121-10), Matthew DeDayne finished third in high jump (5-0) and Riesgraf took second in long jump (19-02).

PREP BASEBALL

SIBLEY EAST 6, BELLE PLAINE 2

GAYLORD — Sibley East took down Belle Plaine 6-2 on Thursday in a nonconference baseball game.

Carson Schmidt led the Wolverines’ attack with a 3-for-3 game at the plate that included a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Schmidt also got the pitching win in five innings of work, allowing four hits and four walks for two earned runs while striking out three, while Ben Friedrichs got the two-inning save, allowing no hits, walks or runs and striking out three. Nathan Schauer was 1 for 1 with an RBI also for Sibley East, while Riley Bussler was 1 for 3 with two RBIs.

MCW 15, NICOLLET 5

NICOLLET — Martin County West defeated Nicollet 15-5 in a Valley Division baseball game on Thursday.

Landyn Erickson took the loss for Nicollet. At the plate, Erickson was 2 for 2 with an RBI, while Jacob Volby had a triple and an RBI. Jordan Laven had a double and a run scored, while Elliot McKiney had a hit and an RBI.

Nicollet (0-12, 0-7) hosts a doubleheader against Madelia on Monday.
