Area roundup: Steffl gets 6th triple-double of season in Cougars’ win over Rabbits

MORGAN — Aubrey Steffl had a triple-double for the sixth time this season as Cedar Mountain ran past Wabasso on Tuesday in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Division girls basketball game.
Steffl scored 25 points, and had 13 rebounds, 10 assists and four steals. Brooklyn Diehn added 19 points, three rebounds and two steals. Marlie Wildt had 12 points, five rebounds and two assists also, while Grace Hamre scored 12 points and had four rebounds and four steals.
Elizabeth Morin led the Rabbits with 18 points. Peyton Jenniges had 9 points and Sara Carlson scored 8 points.
Cedar Mountain (18-9, 9-7) will travel to Madelia (3-19, 0-12) on Friday in Cedar Mountain’s final regular season game. Wabasso ended its regular season with a 1-24.
St. Clair 56, MVL 46
ST. CLAIR — St. Clair downed Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Tuesday in a South Central Conference girls basketball game.
Avery Freier led the Chargers with 17 points, four rebounds and two steals. Avery Hahn added 9 points, 14 rebounds and two steals. Ellie Kaesermann scored 8 points and had four rebounds.
Brooklin Hinze led the Cyclones with 24 points and Brooklyn Meng scored 14 points.
MVL (11-13, 2-6) will play at Sleepy Eye on Monday in the regular season finale for both teams.
Nicollet 76, MLA/C 31
NICOLLET — Nicollet raced past Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey on Tuesday in a nonconference girls basketball game.
Leah Bode led the Raiders with 23 points and nine rebounds. Savannah Klockziem added 14 points, six rebounds and three assists. Zoie Rengstorf scored 11 points and had three steals. Cheyenne Klockziem added 10 points and Jazmyn Goettlicher scored 7 points and she had 10 rebounds.
Nicollet (12-10, 7-4) will host New Ulm Cathedral (6-18, 4-12) on Friday.

ARLINGTON — Lake Crystal/Wellcome Memorial defeated Sibley East on Tuesday in a South Central Conference girls basketball game.
Ruby Ballalatak led the Wolverines with 12 points, seven rebounds, one assist and two steals. Mahrlie Lundgren added 11 points and 12 rebounds. Brianna Kettner scored 8 points and had six rebounds and three assists.
Sibley East (9-14, 4-3) will host Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop (4-19, 2-13) on Thursday.

Sleepy Eye 52
SPRINGFIELD — Springfield downed Sleepy Eye 91-52 in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Divison boys basketball game on Tuesday.
Brecken Heiling led the Tigers with 24 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, while Parker Kuehn had 23 points and six rebounds. Bryan Buerkle, Dylan Simonson and Brayden Sturm each had 10 points for the Tigers.
Landon Wendinger led the Indians with 22 points, 11 rebounds and 10 blocks, while Eric Lozano had 11 points.
Springfield (21-2, 14-1) hosts New Ulm Cathedral on Thursday. Sleepy Eye (10-13) hosts Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Friday.

Blake Sexton led the Chargers with 14 points, four rebounds and four blocks. Pierson Brau had 11 points, four rebounds and one block. Luke Merseth added 10 points, three rebounds and four blocks.
MVL (11-10, 3-4) will host Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial on Thursday.

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s crushed Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Tuesday in a
Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Division boys basketball game.
Adam Steffensmeier led the Knights with 22 points, four rebounds and three assists. Mike Balko added 14 points and five rebounds. Noah Christensen had 10 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals.
St. Mary’s (9-13, 5-9) will play at Sleepy Eye (10-13, 6-9) on Friday.

NICOLLET — Nicollet cruised past Medford on Tuesday in a nonconference boys basketball game.
Henry Kennedy led the Raiders with 21 points and five rebounds. Keegan Hulke had 12 points, eight rebounds and 10 assists. Henry Oscarson added 12 points and five assists.
Nicollet (11-12, 5-6) will host New Ulm Cathedral (9-13, 7-7) on Friday.

WABASSO — Cedar Mountain edged Wabasso on Tuesday in a Valley-Tomahawk, Tomahawk Division boys basketball game.
Blake Schueller led the Cougars with 28 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks and four steals. Blake Steffl added 26 points, four rebounds and six assists. Zach Sandgren scored 15 points and had 10 rebounds, two blocks and three steals.
Caden Frericks led the Rabbits with 24 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks. Calvin Hanna added 20 points, two rebounds, four assists and three steals. Brayden Guetter added 17 points, 12 rebounds, eight assists, two blocks and one steal, while Drew Kemp had 12 points.

VADNAIS HEIGHTS — Gentry Academy downed New Ulm on Tuesday at the TCO Sports Garden in a nonconference boys hockey game.
Talan Helget scored the Eagles’ lone goal with assists by Brecken Neuman and Ian Brudelie. New Ulm goalie Jayden Grunst had 30 saves.
New Ulm (17-7) will pl at Rochester Lourdes/Dover-Eyota on Thursday.
