Hesse named back-to-back Tomahawk Girls Basketball POTY

Sleepy Eye senior guard Kadence Hesse was announced Saturday as the 2023-24 Tomahawk Conference Girls Basketball Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.

Joining Hesse as an All-Conference player was senior teammate Brea Mertz, while junior teammate Page Haala was Honorable Mention.

Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart, which ended its season with a third-place finish at state, was represented on the All-Conference Team by seniors Rachel Kottke and Kristi Kottke, and sophomore Lily Hubin.

For Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s, freshman Morgan Mathiowetz and sophomore Natalie Fischer made the team, while freshman Brynne Ibberson was Honorable Mention.

Springfield saw senior Brooklyn Sturm and junior Emma Hauger named to the team, while junior Marissa Pabst was Honorable Mention.

New Ulm Cathedral had senior Jenna Hotovec named to the team, while Cedar Mountain had freshman Aubrey Steffl named to the team. Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop seniors Marti Jacobson and Jenna Schweiss were named Honorable Mention, along with Minnesota Valley Lutheran senior Mackenzie Merseth and Wabasso senior Avery Carlson.

BLHS head coach Jesse Weick was named Coach of the Year.

Sleepy Eye and BLHS each went 15-1 in conference play to share the Tomahawk title.
