Park & Rec

• Rec Center passes are available to check out at the New Ulm Public Library on a first come, first serve basis. Family and individual passes are available to enjoy swimming, open gym, fitness classes, walking track and more.

•Herbie’s Hangout is a new after school program at the Rec Center designed to provide a safe, supportive and fun environment to children age 6 to 9. This flexible program is offered after school until 5:30 p.m. There is also opportunity for children to complete school work during this time. Register online at newulmmn.gov

• 24-7 Rec Center Access will be turned off on 11 p.m. Saturday, April 27 until 2 a.m. Sunday, April 28 and 8:30 p.m. Saturday, May 11 until 6:30 a.m. Sunday, May 12.

•Free Community Family Fair 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 27 at the New Ulm Civic Center. All ages are welcome to attend, but activities are targeted toward ages birth through second grade. There are many vendors and informational booths available as well as Public Library Summer Reading and Park and Rec Bounce House and Rec on the Go activities.

•Free Program on Controlling Invasive Species Series: Siberian Elm offered at the Pollinator Park located at 2250 N. Broadway St. on Sunday, April 28 from 1 to 3 p.m. Volunteer Joe Gartner will give a tour of the park and talk about how to identify and girdle Siberian Elm Trees.

•Free Foosball Clinic Thursday May 2 at 3:30 p.m. at the Rec Center. Come and learn about this fun game and play on our new foosball table! Instruction is provided by Mankato Foosball/Minnesota Foosball Players. The clinic will last for about 30 minutes, followed by free time to play. No preregistration necessary, but Rec Center admission or membership is required.

•Lifeguard Training is being offered at the Rec Center May 4 and 5 and a second one June 5-7. Please contact bend@newulmmn.gov or 507-233-2121, ext 204 with questions or register online at newulmmn.gov. There are 5 to 8 hours of online course work to be completed prior to the pretest for this course.

Open Skate runs Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays 11:30-1, Tuesdays 3:30-5 p.m. and Sundays 1-2:45 p.m. Open Figure Skating is offered Mondays 4-5:15 p.m.

General Open Hockey is offered 11:30-1 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday, 3:30-5:30 p.m. Wednesday and 7-8:15 p.m. Sunday. All open skate and hockey schedules are posted on the Park and Rec website. Skate rentals $3.

• Open Pickleball 6-8:45 p.m.Wednesday and Friday, 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m., Saturdays 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Sundays and 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Outdoor courts are open at Lincoln Park. Paddles are available to rent at the Welcome desk for $2 and includes a ball. People playing pickleball outside of these hours are welcome to pull the net out and play on an open court.

Open Tennis is offered Saturday mornings from 8 to 10 a.m. The curtain will be closed and will not affect the walking track. It is also offered Tuesday evenings from 6:45-8:45 p.m. Curtains will be up during this time and only a short track available.

• Tot Swim is offered Wednesdays in the shallow pool from 9-10:30 a.m. Admission is $3. Tot Gym is offered Mondays and Fridays from 9-10:30 a.m. Burn off energy in the gym! Toys provided. Admission is $3 and that includes admission in the playground as well.

•Summer Program Brochure are available on Park & Rec website and online registration for summer programs is available at newulmmn.gov or in person at the Rec Center.
