New Ulm boys, River Valley girls win Eagles meet

NEW ULM — The New Ulm boys track and field team won with 107 points at a home track and field invitational on Thursday, while River Valley won the girls side of the meet with 117 points.

Following New Ulm in the boys meet were St. James Area (77), Mayer Lutheran (60), Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (57), Loyola-Cleveland (56) and River Valley (46). Following River Valley for the girls were New Ulm (80), SJA (71), Loyola-Cleveland (65), Mayer Lutheran (47) and TMB (22).

Easton Clark and the relay teams were leaders for the New Ulm boys in the meet, with Clark winning the triple jump (38-4) and the long jump (18-9.25). The 4×100 team of Isaac Friese, Cole Frederick, Jamison Portner and Brennan Shaver (46.96) and the 4×200 team of the same members (1:40.77) both placed first as well.

Also for the New Ulm boys, Brennan Shaver placed second in the 200 (25.62), while Sullivan Gusso placed third in the boys 400 (56.29) followed by George Gag in fifth (57.11). Michael Hames placed third in boys 800 (2:16.43) while Nicholes Turbes placed fourth in the boys 300-meter hurdles (52.15). Brooks Miner and Benjamin Pearson placed second (112-6) and third (107-7) in boys discus, respectively, while James Osborne placed second in boys long jump (18-7.75). Ethan Lieb placed fourth in the boys 110-meter hurdles (21.33).

Leading the New Ulm girls were Ellie Dake, who placed second in shot put (28-2.5), Sophia Berger, who placed second in triple jump (30-4.5), and Jasalyn Skoglund, who placed second in the 300-meter hurdles (55.85).

The 4×100 relay team of Dake, Estelle Fischer, Riley Wilson and Sarah Todesco placed second (56.40), as well as the 4×200 relay team of Dake, Fischer, Kaelyn Eikanger and Todesco (1:56.68) and the 4×800 relay team of Ella Ahrens, Grace Barie, Skoglund and Megan Gauert (11:35.70).

Also for the New Ulm girls, Jacelyn Petterson placed fifth in shot put (26-11), while Kaylee Evans placed fifth in the triple jump (28-3). Leah Brunstad placed fourth in the 100 (14.33), while Eikanger placed fourth in the 400 (1:06.15). Gauert placed fourth in the 800 (2:45.11).

For the River Valley boys, Raul Rodrigues placed second in the boys 800 (2:13.73), while Matthew Groebner placed third in the 1,600 (5:06.18). The Wildcats also won the boys 4×800 relay with Rodrigues, Lucas Hensch, Groebner and Noah Christensen (9:05.80). Levi Hagen placed second in the 3,200 (11:44.40).

Hailey Hollar was key for River Valley’s win, winning the 100 (13.61) the 200 (27.99) and the long jump (15-7) and was also part of the winning 4×200 relay team, along with Aubrey Steffl, Marissa Pabst and Brynne Ibberson. Hollar’s long jump distance was also a season record for her.

Also for River Valley, Pabst placed second in the 800 (2:35.76), while Skyla Dauer and Emma Hagen placed second (13:39.43) and third (14:03.96) in the 3,200, respectively. Leah Kucera placed second in the 100-meter hudle (19.46) and third in the triple jump (30-2.5)., while Millie Lax placed third in the 300-meter hurdles (55.90). Marley Hewitt, Erika Wells, Yanellie Fernandez and Kucera placed first in the 4×100 (54.95). Also placing first was the 4×200 relay team of Fernandez, Pabst, Ibberson and Marley Hewitt (1:53.44).

Fernandez placed third in shot put (28) and discus (87-6), while Steffl placed second in long jump (15-0.75).

New Ulm will host another invitational on Tuesday. River Valley will travel to St. James Area on Tuesday.
