NEW ULM — Sleepy Eye split a Tomahawk Conference baseball doubleheader with New Ulm Cathedral on Monday at Mueller Park.
In the 3-0 win in Game 1, Austin Uecker led the Indians at the plate, going 3 for 4 with two runs scored. Arian Saenz was 2 for 3 with an RBI also for Sleepy Eye, while Cody Schultz drove in a run. Marcus Martinez got the complete-game win for the Indians, giving up two hits and no walks while fanning 11.
Thomas Finstad finished Game 1 with both of Cathedral’s hits, going 2 for 3. Carter Haala took the loss in 6 2/3 innings of work, giving up seven hits and a walk for three earned runs while striking out four.
In Game 2, Cathedral was led at the plate by Brock Wellman and Levi Franta, who each went 2 for 3 with a run scored. Wellman also drove in a run, while Caleb Forstner was 1 for 3 with two runs scored. Franta also got the complete-game win for the Greyhounds, giving up one hit and two walks for one run while striking out seven.
Sleepy Eye’s Kaleb Butenhoff took the loss in four innings, giving up four hits and three walks for two unearned runs while striking out three. Winsten Nienhaus pitched three innings of relief and gave up four hits and two walks for three earned runs while fanning one. Caden Evers had Sleepy Eye’s lone hit in Game 2, while Nick Mielke had an RBI.
Cathedral hosts Minnesota Valley Lutheran in a doubleheader starting at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday at Johnson Park, while Sleepy Eye hosts Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s at 4:30 p.m. Thursday for a doubleheader.
Springfield 9, Wabasso 2 (Game 1)

WABASSO — Springfield split a Tomahawk Conference doubleheader with Wabasso on Monday, winning Game 1 9-2 before falling 2-0 in Game 2.
In Game 1, Ashtin Johnson was 4 for 5 with two RBIs to lead Springfield, while Jakob Nachreiner was 3 for 5 with three doubles and two RBIs and Luke Boyle was 3 for 5 with two doubles and two RBIs. Jackson Ludewig was 3 for 3 with two runs scored also for the Tigers, while Chase Groebner doubled and had an RBI. Kade Nachreiner got the win in 6 2/3 innings, giving up four hits and no walks for two unearned runs while striking out 13. Ludewig got the final out on a strikeout.
Wabasso got singles from Joe Liebl, Adryen Tietz, Jaxson Wagner and Noah Anderson. Liebl took the loss in four innings, giving up nine hits and two walks for five earned runs while fanning three.
In Game 2, Tietz pitched a complete-game no-hitter for the Rabbits, giving up two walks and striking out 16. He also led the Rabbits at the plate, going 3 for 4 with an RBI and a double. Anderson was 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored also, while Wagner doubled and Jayden Remiger had an RBI.
Sam Rummel took the loss in Game 2, giving up seven hits and a walk for one earned run while striking out eight. Ludewig pitched the seventh inning in relief and gave up three hits and a run while fanning two.
Springfield is at Milroy for an invitational on Saturday, while Wabasso hosts Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop for a doubleheader on Thursday.

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield and Wabasso split a Tomahawk Conference softball doubleheader Monday at Wabasso, with the Rabbits taking game one 6-4 and the Tigers winning game two 10-5.
Avery Carlson got the win in the first game for Wabasso, getting two strikouts and allowing 11 hits, three earned runs and getting four walks in seven innings. Addisyn Hillesheim was 2 for 3 with a run scored, while Sara Carlson had a double and a run scored. Kelsey Frank had a triple, an RBI and two runs scored. Avery Carlson had a hit, a run scored, and an RBI.
Jalivia Richert took the loss for Springfield, getting six strikouts while allowing eight hits, two earned runs and getting two walks in seven innings. Lexie Groebner was 3 for 4 with an RBI, while Maddie Digmann was 1 for 2 with two walks, a stolen base and a run scored. Brenna Pabst had a single, a run scored and two RBIs, while Emma Hauger had a double.
In the second game, Jaeli Richert got the win for the Tigers, getting one strikeout while allowing seven hits, two earned runs and one walk. At the plate, Brooklyn Sturm was 3 for 5 with three RBIs, a triple and two runs scored. Maddy Digman was 3 for 5 with two RBIs, a triple, a stolen base and two runs scored. Jaeli Richert was 2 for 5 with three runs, and Jalivia Richert had a double and an RBI.
Annabelle Struntz was handed the loss for the Rabbits, getting two strikeouts and allowing 14 hits and two earned runs with one walk. Frank was 2 for 4 with a steal, while Struntz was 2 for 3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.
Wabasso will travel to Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Thursday for a doubleheader. Springfield will travel to Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Monday.

TRUMAN — Nicollet took down Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther/Truman 11-8 in a Valley Conference softball game on Monday at Truman.
Emma Drill got the with with seven strikeouts and five earned runs. At the plate for the Raiders, Ellie Matter was 3 for 3 with two doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored. Morgan Arndt was 2 for 5 with three RBIs, and Hattie Hansen was 2 for 5 with three runs scored. Sam Kettner was 3 for 4 with two runs scored, while Leah Bode was 3 for 5 with three runs scored. Drill was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Nicollet will travel to Randolph on Tuesday.

MVL boys 185, GFW 210
MVL girls 298, GFW inc.
WINTHROP — The Minnesota Valley Lutheran boys team defeated the Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop team 185-210 in a Tomahawk Conference golf meet on Monday at Winthrop Golf Course. The MVL girls team scored 298, and the GFW girls team was incomplete.
Medalists for the boys were MVL’s Ben Pearson with 40 in first, MVL’s James Osterman with 43 in second, and MVL’s Nathaniel Lukasek with 48. Lane Olson finished fourth with 51, and GFW’s Nate TenEyke finished fifth with 52.
For finishers for the girls, GFW’s Jenna Schweiss finished first (52), with MVL’s Mackenzie Merseth and Gabbie Bleick placed second and third with a 55 and a 56 respectively. In fourth was GFW’s Nicole Sievert with 75 and in fifth was MVL’s Kathryn Dinse with 86.

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye United won both the boys and girls events in triangular golf meet on Monday against Red Rock Central and Wabasso at Sleepy Eye Golf Club, scoring 192 for the boys and 217 for the girls. RRC had a 212 score for the boys, and the rest of the teams were incomplete.
Low scores for the boys were Carson Erickson from SEU (37), RRC’s Keagan Steen (48), and Wabasso’s Aidan Lanoue tied with SEU’s Blaine Arneson (49). In fifth was SEU’s Kaleb Weiss.
For the girls, SEU’s Liz Schwint placed first (50), while SEU’s Sam Price finished second (51). RRC’s Aryanna Weber placed third (55), while SEU’s Kiara Murphy placed fourth (57). Wabasso’s Jasmine Kuehn and SEU’s Chloe Walter tied fir fifth (59).
Cathedral boys 187, Springfield 197, BLHS 214
The New Ulm Cathedral boys defeated Springfield and Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart in a Tomahawk Conference golf triangular on Monday. Cathedral scored 187, Springfield scored 197, and BLHS scored 214. The girls teams were all incomplete.
Top finishers for the boys were Cathedrals Ben Blomberg in first (43), BLHS’s Sawyer Melberg in second (45), and Cathedral’s Jack Edwards in third (46). Springfield’s Braiden Davis, Erik Davis and Carter Asmus all tied with Cathedral’s Owen Strei, Will Marti, Miles Boesch and Joey Fingland for fourth (49).
Cathedral’s Alaina Blomberg finished first for the girls (52), with BLHS’s Ava Ahlbrecht coming in second (55). Cathedral’s Kaitlyn Furth finished third (60), and Springfield had the fourth and fifth place finishers with Kynslee Kaster (62) and Mavri Winkelmann (63).
GIRLS GOLF
New Ulm girls take 5th in Leg 2
JACKSON — The New Ulm girls golf team finished fifth out of six teams on Monday during the second leg of the Big South Conference East Division Golf Meet at the Jackson Country Club, turning in a 227.
Blue Earth Area took first with a 198.
New Ulm was led by Elyse Dreckman, who tied for seventh with a 51. New Ulm also saw Katie Wilker finish tied for ninth (52), while Brooklyn Hagberg tied for 14th (55) and Rory Gieseke shot a 69 to take 32nd.
BOYS TENNIS
Mankato East 4, New Ulm 3
NEW ULM — Mankato East defeated New Ulm 4-3 in a nonconference boys tennis match on Monday at New Ulm High School.
New Ulm No. 4 singles player Keenan Davis defeated Keenan Davis 7-5, 6-3. New Ulm’s No. 1 doubles team of Leo Waloch and Nathaniel Janssen defeated Kaleb Kim and Adler Johnson 7-6 (6), 2-6, 6-3. New Ulm No. 3 doubles team Gideon Heins and Joey Kotten defeated Davis Reynolds and Brady Clark 6-2, 6-2.
New Ulm travels to Waseca on Tuesday.
