Eagles shut down St. Peter, stay perfect in conference
NEW ULM — The New Ulm girls’ softball team remained perfect in conference play as the Eagles shut out St. Peter 6-0 on Thursday in Big South Conference action.
Ramsey Hopp pitched a complete game. She gave up only two hits, walked one and she struck out six batters.
She also set the batters down in order in the first, second, fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
Credit the entire Eagles team for their contributions in the win.
Hopp pitched well, the defense behind her played well and offensively, they scored runs by getting hits at the right time. They were also aggressive on the bases and ran the bases well.
“I’m proud of the girls for their 10-0 conference play in a tough conference,” Eagles head coach Kristi Andersen-Loose said. “They played together defensively to hold a good hitting team.”
The first four innings could best be summarized this way: Both pitchers — and teams — found ways to end threats by the other team. They made plays when they needed to do so.
“We hit up and down the lineup to score runs,” Andersen-Loose said.
The Eagles did all of their damage in the bottom of the fourth inning. Amber Lee hit a triple to the center field fence.
She scored later on a Saints error. Kenzie Enter was the player who reached on that error. Enter scored when Maddi O’Connor was hit by a pitch.
Miranda Suess’ hit scored the Eagles’ third run. Emma Brudelie’s double scored O’Connor and Suess for the Eagles’ final two runs of the contest.
Suess went 2 for 4 with an RBI, Calyn Glaser went 1 for 3 with two RBIs and Brudelie was 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI.
New Ulm (10-0) will play St. James Area for the Big South Conference Championship on Saturday.
