SEU boys in fifth after Day 1

Schiller stands out for Cedar Mountain boys

Sleepy Eye United sits in fifth place as a team after the first day of the Class A State Boys Golf Tournament, shooting a 321 Tuesday at Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker.

Central Minnesota Christian leads the team tournament with a 300. Individually, SEU’s Nolan Kucera and Blaine Arneson both shot a 77 to tie for 21st, while Anders Coulson shot a 79 for 36th. Isaac Christensen shot an 88 for 73rd, Eli Christensen shot an 89 for 75th, and Dylan Krebs placed 88th with a 118.

Individually, Cedar Mountain’s Carson Schiller ended the first day 1 under par, good for second place. Schiller shot a 71 on the first day, two strokes behind Heritage Christian Academy’s Alex Rhode for first place.

For the Class A girls, Springfield sits in seventh as a team after shooting a 382, behind first-place Dawson-Boyd with a 329. Mavri Winkelmann led the Tigers with a 90 and sits in 32nd place individually, while Kynslee Kastner shot a 93 for 38th. Ava Lipetzky shot a 95 for 42nd, and Annie Kuehn and Willow Krueger both shot a 104 for 64th.

Also in the girls tournament, Sleepy Eye United’s Sam Price shot an 87 to finish the day in a tie for 26th, while Kiara Murphy shot a 97 and is in a tie for 47th. Heritage Christian Academy’s Aly Bormes leads individually with a 73.

In Class AA at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan, New Ulm’s Mason Buegler shot a 77 in the first round of the boys tournament, which puts him in a tie for 38th. Southwest Christian’s Henry Johnson leads the Class AA boys with a 67 after Day 1.

The second days of the tournaments begin tomorrow at the same locations. The boys begin at 7:30 a.m., while the girls tee off at 12 p.m.
