New Ulm vaults past Marshall

NEW ULM — The New Ulm gymnastics team rolled to yet another Big South Conference gymnastics win on Monday at the New Ulm Recreation Center, defeating Marshall 135.625-118.
New Ulm took first as a team in every event, with scores of 34.75 in the vault, 32.9 on bars, 32.35 on the beam and 35.625 on floor. Marshall had team scores of 33.525 (vault), 27.975 (bars), 25.95 (beam) and 30.75 (floor).
Kayla Goblirsch, competing in all four events for the Eagles, took first overall with a 36.35, ahead of Marshall’s Cameen Mcfarquhar (32.9) and Kaylee VanHauwaert (26.9). New Ulm’s Emily Guggisberg and Josie Sellner finished fourth (25) and fifth (24.65) all-around, respectively.
Goblirsch also finished first in the vault (9.2), uneven parallel bars (8.975), beam (8.925) and floor (9.25).
Anna Schwartz also turned in a nice performance for New Ulm in the vault, taking third with an 8.55, while Guggisberg and Jennifer Ebnet tied for fourth with an 8.5. Laura Bertrang followed close behind in the vault at sixth place for New Ulm with an 8.45.
On bars, Sellner finished second with an 8.15, while New Ulm’s Emma Radloff took fourth (7.975) and Madison Miller took fifth (7.8). On the beam, Sellner took second (7.95), Guggisberg took third (7.75), Miller took fourth (7.725) and Kiah Helget took fifth (7.05).
The Eagles also dominated the floor routine, taking four of the top five scores. After Goblirsch, Schwartz took second in the floor routine (8.9), while Guggisberg took third (8.75) and Radloff took fourth (8.725). Mcfarquhar finished fifth with an 8.65, while Sellner finished just behind with an 8.55 for sixth.
New Ulm moves to 6-1 on the season with the victory.
The Eagles are at Fairmont for another Big South meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
