MVL sweeps BLHS

NEW ULM — Minnesota Valley Lutheran remained on top of the Tomahawk Conference baseball race as it swept Buffalo Lake-Hector/Stewart 4-2 and 15-5 in a doubleheader at Johnson Park.

The second game was stopped after five innings because of the 10-run lead rule.

Josh Giefer got the pitching win in the opener as he scattered six hits and struck out 10. Cole Thompson and Luke Thompson each had two hits with Cole Thompson driving in two runs.

In the nightcap, the Chargers erased a 5-2 Mustangs’ lead with six runs in the fourth inning and then added seven more runs fifth.

Leyton Brau, Kaiden Hammerschmidt and Reed Selvey each had three hits. Brau had two doubles with Cole Thompson, Hammerschmidt and Garrett Parker each doubling. Luke Thompson and Selvey each had a triple.

Caleb Carlovsky drove in four runs with Hammerschmidt driving in three.

Matt Ulrich got the win for the Chargers.

MVL, now 10-1 in conference play and 11-1 overall, is at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Monday.
