Area roundup: Glover sets Madelia scoring record in loss to WEM

WEM 97, MADELIA 44

MADELIA –Ja’Sean Glover set the all-time scoring record for Madelia on Tuesday as the Blackhawks fell to Waterville-Elysian-Morristown in a nonconference boys’ basketball contest.

Glover surpassed Kendall Peterson’s (2012) record of 1,407 career points. He now has 1,419 career points.

Glover led the Blackhawks with 30 points and eight rebounds.

Madelia (6-11) will travel to Wabasso (8-13) on Thursday.

Nicollet 66, MCW 42

NICOLLET — The Nicollet boys’ basketball team remained perfect in the conference on Tuesday with a big 66-42 win over Martin County West in Valley Conference boys’ basketball action.

MCW (17-3, 7-2) was the No. 7-ranked QRF team in Class A on minnesota-scores.net on Jan. 27.

The Raiders (14-3, 8-0) were led by Riley Hulke’s 22 points, six rebounds and six steals, while Collin Bode added 16 points and five boards. Also for Nicollet, Colton Thomsen had an 11-point, 13-rebound double-double and Ben Radke had 9 points and seven rebounds.

Nicollet hosts Tri-City United Thursday night.

Girls’ basketball

New Ulm 65,

Mound Westonka 53

MINNETRISTA — New Ulm defeated Mound Westonka on Thursday in a nonconference girls’ basketball game.

The Eagles were led by Hannah Osborne with 22 points and eight rebounds. Bryn Nesvold had 15 points, Daviney Dreckman added 10 points with eight rebounds and Olivia Wick scored 8 points and she had eight rebounds.

New Ulm (9-11) will host Waseca on Thursday.

GSL 69, MVL 48

GLENCOE — Glencoe-Sliver Lake defeated Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Tuesday in a nonconference girls’ basketball game.

Maddie Pearson led the Chargers with 11 points and five assists. Kaylee Hunter added 10 points with four assists. Emma Nelson and Abby Nelson each had nine rebounds.

MVL (16-5, 11-2) will play at New Ulm Cathedral (2-16, 1-12) on Thursday.

Springfield 72, WWG 49

WESTBROOK — Springfield defeated Westbrook-Walnut Grove on Tuesday in nonconference girls’ basketball action.

Sydney Hauger led the Tigers with 28 points and Courtney Wendt added 12 points.

Camryn Bunting led the Chargers with 18 points.

Springfield (18-3, 11-2) will play at Sleepy Eye (13-7, 7-7) on Friday.

BLHS 88, CM 30

HECTOR — Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart crushed Cedar Mountain on Tuesday in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game.

Sara Kottke led all scorers with 20 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Kristi Kottke and Allison Milbrandt each scored 14 points.

Teresa Larsen led CM with 11 points and Bella Harmoning added 7 points.

BLHS (17-4, 10-4) will host BOLD on Thursday. CM (2-17, 1-11) will host Wabasso (5-15, 2-10) on Friday.

Prep wrestling

NUA goes 2-1 at

Springfield quad

SPRINGFIELD — The New Ulm Area wrestling team went 2-1 at a Springfield quadrangular on Tuesday night in prep wrestling action.

NUA defeated Norwood-Young America 38-21 and Springfield 36-33 and fell to Canby 53-21.

Colby Wenninger (Hwt.) and Carter Brandes (120) led the Eagles with three falls on the night, while Cole Ranweiler had a pair of falls and a win by forfeit.
