Prep roundup: Hauger sets Springfield girls’ scoring record Tuesday, MVL boys win Kwik Trip Holiday Tournament

Springfield 63, RTR 56

MARSHALL — With 24 points on Tuesday at Southwest Minnesota State University, Sydney Hauger set the Springfield girls’ basketball career scoring record in the Tigers’ 63-56 win over Russell-Tyler-Ruthton.

Hauger now has 1,746 career points, passing Vishé Raab’s previous career scoring mark of 1,729 points. Hauger also had 11 rebounds and five assists in the win.

Also for Springfield, Meriah Kirschstein had 15 points, while Megan Ploeger added 8 points.

Springfield (8-1) next plays at Wabasso on Friday night.

Boys’ basketball

MVL 76, St. Croix Lutheran 57

MANKATO — Minnesota Valley Lutheran coasted past St. Croix Lutheran 76-57 on Tuesday afternoon, finishing the Kwik Trip Holiday Tournament at Bethany Lutheran College as champions.

Dunwa Omot led the Chargers with 33 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Also for MVL, Kyreis Harrison had 14 points and seven rebounds, while Mason Cox added 10 points and seven rebounds and Jace Marotz had 9 points and six rebounds.

All five starters for MVL were named to the All-Tournament Team. With MVL starters Izayah Harrison, Kyreis Harrison, Cox, Marotz and Omot making the team, it was the first time in tournament history that five players from one team were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Omot also tied former MVL teammate Jake Kettner for the tournament’s scoring record of 91 points in three games. Kettner had 91 points in the 2017 tournament.

MVL (10-0) hosts New Ulm Cathedral for a big Tomahawk Conference matchup on Tuesday.
