Prep roundup: Glover hits 1,000 in loss to St. James, Nicollet boys win, New Ulm boys lose

SJA 90, Madelia 74

MADELIA — Ja’Sean Glover scored his 1,000th point on Tuesday in Madelia’s loss to St. James Area in a boys’ basketball game.

Glover scored 27 points and he added five rebounds. Kadin Benzel and Kurt Lugo each scored 15 points. Lugo had eight rebounds.

Madelia (1-3) will play at Red Rock Central on Thursday.

Nicollet 77,

Immanuel Lutheran 41

MANKATO — Nicollet crushed Immanuel Lutheran on Tuesday in a nonconference boys’ basketball game.

Riley Hulke led the Raiders with 26 points, 14 assists and five steals. Shane Stevensen added 15 points. Colton Thomsen had 9 points and six rebounds. Ben Radke added 6 points and nine rebounds.

Nicollet (2-1) hosts BOLD on Thursday.

Watertown-Mayer 69, New Ulm 55

WATERTOWN — Watertown-Mayer defeated New Ulm on Tuesday in a nonconference boys’ basketball game.

Reece Melby led the Eagles with 31 points and seven rebounds. Joshua Wenninger added 11 points. Brayden Geariety and Isaiah Miller each had seven rebounds.

New Ulm (0-3) will play at Fairmont on Thursday.

BLHS 54, Sleepy Eye 44

HECTOR — Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart handed Sleepy Eye its first loss of the season on Tuesday in a Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball game.

Kegan Heiderscheidt led Sleepy Eye with 17 points and Erizen Traconis added 14 points.

Sleepy Eye (4-1,1-1) will host Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s (6-0, 3-0) on Friday.

T/ML/GHEC 73, CM 48

MORGAN — Truman/Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley/East Chain defeated Cedar Mountain on Tuesday in a Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball game.

Trey Peterson-Juhl led the Cougars with 17 points and Cade Schiller scored 10 points.

The Cougars (1-2) will travel to Cleveland on Friday.

St. Mary’s 74,

Wabasso 55

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s defeated Wabasso on Tuesday in a Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball game.

Carson Domeier led the Knights with 26 points, Trent Steffensmeier added 15 and Blake Steffensmeier had 13 points.

Will Carlson led Wabasso with 18 points and Isaac Kronback scored 15 points.

St. Mary’s will host Sleepy Eye on Friday. Wabasso (1-2, 0-2) will play at Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Saturday.

SLEEPY EYE– Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s downed Wabasso on Tuesday in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game.

Madison Mathiowetz led the Knights with 32 points. Sydney Windschitl added 16 points and Liz Schwint had 14 points.

Wabasso’s Sarah Franta scored 13 points and Bella Brand added 10 points.

St. Mary’s (6-0, 3-0) will play at Sleepy Eye 4-1, 1-1) on Thursday. Wabasso (2-2, 1-1) will travel to Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart (3-1, 1-1) on Friday.

Springfield 73,

Cathedral 37

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield downed New Ulm Cathedral on Thursday in Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball action.

Sydney Hauger led the Tigers with 27 points, six rebounds and eight steals. Meriah Kirschstein scored 20 points and Maddy Digmann had 10 points.

Lily Franta led Cathedral with 10 points, Emily Schommer scored 8 points, Sarah Mohr and Maggie Fliszar each had 6 points.

Springfield (4-1, 1-1) will host Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Friday. Cathedral (1-4, 0-2) will play at Cedar Mountain on Friday.

MVL 64, GFW 30

WINTHROP — Minnesota Valley Lutheran placed four players in double figures on Tuesday as the Chargers downed Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game.

Kaylee Hunter scored 14 points for MVL. Abbie Riederer had 14 points with five steals. Emma Nelson added 13 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks. Maddie Pearson scored 11 points, added nine assists with seven rebounds and Abby Nelson had eight rebounds.

Shelby Ramirez scored 9 points for GFW, all of them were 3-pointers.

MVL (4-1, 3-0) will face Western Lutheran on Thursday in the MLC Invitational Tournament. GFW (2-2, 1-2) will play at Springfield (4-1, 1-1) on Friday.

BLHS 58, Sleepy Eye 43

HECTOR — Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart handed Sleepy Eye its first loss of the season on Tuesday as the Mustangs downed the Indians 58-43 in Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball action.

The Indians were led by Brittney Dittbenner, who had 18 points, six steals and five rebounds. Kadence Hesse added 10 points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists for the Indians.

The Indians (4-1, 1-1) are at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Thursday.

Prep gymnastics

New Ulm wins triangular

REDWOOD FALLS — New Ulm scored 130.425 points to win the Redwood Valley gymnastics triangular on Tuesday.

Redwood Valley scored a 125.7 and Russel-Tyler-Ruthton scored a 107.225.

For New Ulm, Kayla Goblirsch won the all-around with a 35.525 and Emily Guggisberg had a 31.150. Goblirsch won the floor (9.0), the beam (9.225) and the bars (9.0). Ella Freiderich had an 8.475 in vault and Laura Bertrang had a score of 8.45. On bars, Freiderich had an 8.075 and Paige Kalis had a 7.725. Kalis had an 8.075 on beam and Guggisberg had an 8.05 on beam. Freiderich had an 8.75 on floor and Kaylee Hutchinson had an 8.2 on floor.
