I am a Backer ‘backer’

To the Editor: The Guidelines as to governance responsibilities for the City of New Ulm state: “The Mayor serves as an ex-officio member of the City Council and enjoys the same rights and privileges of the Council except those of making motions, seconding motions, offering resolutions, seconding resolutions or voting thereon. He (sic) has the power to veto certain specific council actions.” Those same guidelines then go on to explain the responsibilities of the many functional commissions and boards of the City of New Ulm. As do Council members, even though not voting, it behooves ...

Vote for John Luepke

To the editor: On Nov. 8, I would urge you to vote for John Luepke. John has spent his lifetime serving his church, family and area organizations. As a county commissioner he has the largest area to represent. He is always available to hear your concerns, and will always get you an answer. He makes sure he is informed on as many issues as possible, and votes the way he thinks the people he represents would want him to vote. He is fiscally responsible. Please give your vote to John Luepke on November 8th. Thank you. Gerald Fitzner Courtland

‘Vietnam dedication’

To the editor: We wish to extend a heartfelt “Thank You” to Bruce Lambrecht and his team, Mayor Terry Sveine, and all the eloquent speakers for their beautiful, comforting words to honor our six fallen heroes. Thanks as well to the National Guard, all participants, including Vietnam Veterans, all Veterans and families who attended. Also, thanks to the Fabulous Armadillos concert!! Because of all of you these 6 men will never be forgotten. There is an old proverb that states, “To share one’s joy is twice the joy, to share one’s sorrow is half the sorrow.” We felt this ...

Vote Ron Wendinger for Mayor of New Ulm

To the editor: New Ulm has had excellent Mayors in the past, Bob Beussman and Terry Sveine just to name a couple. New Ulm needs another Mayor with strong values and positive leadership qualities. We feel Ron Wendinger fits this description perfectly. We have known Ron for 35+ years and have found him to be a great leader with a strong work ethic and positive attitude. Ron has proven he strongly supports New Ulm and its German heritage. He has been a member of the Concord Singers for 40 years and has held various leadership positions within the group. Ron is a Veteran and very active ...

New viewpoints to consider

To the editor: A response to Mary Thom’s letter to the editor, 10/15/22. Thank you, Mary, for acknowledging it is “a laudable goal,” to ensure that students have the necessary support in place for them to be successful in school. Thank you for clarifying that people had not said that there were classes specifically teaching critical race theory and LGBTQ+ ideas. There were numerous verbal and written statements from community members opposing the teaching and discussion of these concepts with students in grades K-3. These statements send red flags to me as a retired teacher. I ...

Chadderdon is the right choice for sheriff

To the editor: My name is Tom Rother and I’m a 17-year law enforcement veteran, with the past nine years being a detective with an area law enforcement agency. I’m writing this letter in support of Marc Chadderdon for Nicollet County Sheriff. Marc’s leadership and community commitment are second to none and he would do great things for the citizens for Nicollet County. I’m going to highlight two areas in which I’ve directly seen Marc’s leadership in action. Marc was one of the founding investigators of the Minnesota South Central Investigators Coalition (MSCIC). This ...
