Thumbs Up/Down

Flipping for Kayla

THUMBS UP: Kayla Goblirsch, a junior at Cathedral High School, has been competing on the New Ulm High School gymnastics team for three years, and each year she has earned a trip to to the Minnesota State High School gymnastics meet March 26 and 27. Goblirsch is competing in the all-around at the meet.

We wish Goblirsch the best of luck in the tournament.

Life savers

THUMBS UP: Quick action by neighbors and first responders in Hanska last weekend saved the life of David Blair, who was bleeding profusely after accidentally putting his arm through a door window. Blair told the story this week how neighbors helped apply a tourniquet, and how EMTs helped stop the bleeding enough to transport him to the hospital, escorted by Brown County Sheriff’s deputies.

Blair is grateful and shared his story to thank those who helped him. We are all fortunate to have dedicated and proficient responders when we need them.

Picking a jury

THUMBS UP: Picking the jury for the Derek Chauvin trial is taking a while. The process is stretching into a third week, with two more jurors to be selected next week. The process is important and should take as long as is necessary to select a panel of people who will listen, judge fairly and render a verdict.

The $27 million settlement from the city of Minneapolis to the family of George Floyd caused a ripple, but the process is advancing.
