Remember what Memorial Day is all about

Memorial Day weekend is here and gives us an opportunity to remember those that have fallen. There are several Memorial Day observances scheduled in the region including those in New Ulm. This year’s Memorial Day celebration will have new meaning in New Ulm. Earlier this month Capt. Willibald Bianchi was given a full military honors funeral in the Soldier’s Rest section of New Ulm’s cemetery, over 80 years after his death. The importance of Memorial Day has never been more clear to this community.

Splashpad and Popcorn Wagon are back

Friday, the splashpad at North Park officially reopened for the summer season, which is a great option for beating the heat this weekend. In addition, the splashpad will be in operation on Memorial Day when other places sites are closed for the holiday. Another returning summertime feature is the Brown County Historical Society Popcorn Wagon. The Popcorn Wagon will make its first appearance on the season on Saturday. The Wagon only makes 10 visits a year. It is a good idea take advantage of these seasonal opportunities while available.
