New Ulm Police
• Received a two-vehicle crash report without injuries at 9:10 a.m. March 28 in the Vogel Arena parking lot, 121 S. Garden, New Ulm. Judy L. Mathiowetz, 75, Sleepy Eye, was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse that struck a handicap sign/pole that struck a parked 2022 GMC Terrain. Both vehicles had minor front end damage. The pole/sign had moderate damage.

• Responded to a single-vehicle semi-tractor trailer rollover crash on Sibley County Highway 2, two miles south of Gibbon, near 310th Street at 7:39 a.m. March 28. The driver, Eric Helget, 47, New Ulm, was unable to negotiate a curve, crossed the center line, entered the west ditch and rolled. Some livestock feed spilled during the crash. Helget was transported to New Ulm Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota State Patrol are investigating the crash.
• Responded to a hit-and-run crash at 8th Avenue and 3rd Street in New Auburn at 8:05 p.m. March 28. Darryl Chaplin, 60, New Auburn, was southbound on 7th Avenue in a 2018 Ford F150 when he was rear-ended by a Toyota Highlander that left the crash scene and was later located in New Auburn. Chaplin did not seek medical treatment. His vehicle had substantial rear damage. The sheriff’s office is investigating the crash.
