New fun and games at the library
Off the Shelf
Circulation of “things” in the New Ulm Public Library of Things has been phenomenal this summer. Board games, musical instruments and educational toys are flying off the shelves. To meet this demand and to keep our offerings fresh and appealing, we are adding many more items. Soon a decibel meter, a banjo, a cribbage board and many more games will be added to the collection. The following list-with descriptions from the publishers- details some of the new board games:
“Colorbrain” In this family board game all the answers are names of colors. One question, for example, is “Do you remember the five colors of the Olympic rings?” Colorbrain is easy to learn. Each team holds eleven color cards in front of them. Together, players figure out which cards to play to answer the question.
“Mondrian Blocks” This brain teaser STEM puzzle game is a Parents’ Choice Award Winner. Challenge your flexible thinking and problem-solving skills by solving interesting puzzles.
“Klask” Klask was ranked as the #1 party game of 2015 in Sweden and Norway. It’s like a fussball table on the go, with air hockey added!
“Moose Master” “Your cheeks will hurt from smiling and laughing so hard. Moose Master keeps you laughing while trying to outsmart your friends. This game is quick to set up and easy to learn.”
“Blank Slate” “How well can you put your finger on what everyone’s thinking? Pick a word cue card, write the word you think best completes the phrase, and try to match it to another player’s word without giving a hint.”
“I Should Have Known That!” In this entertaining trivia game, it will only be a matter of time before you hear yourself say “I should have known that!”
“200 Family Conversation cards” “This game uses questions to build conversations with purpose. This card deck contains 200 straightforward questions and topics that children and parents alike will love sharing together.”
“The Game Plan” “Help kids develop life skills and solve problems by discussing questions on these playing cards. Questions address bullying, teasing, personal safety, phone and address safety and tricky persons.”
“Trekking the National Parks” This wildly popular National Parks game won the Mensa and Parent’s Choice Awards. “A couple traveled to every single national park and then worked with their son to make the game.” What a fun way to learn about America’s beautiful parks.
“My First Bananagrams” “This perfect word game for the pre-reader and early learner, utilizes lowercase letters to help children grow a love for word games and wordplay. The game
aligns with school reading curriculums and includes combo-letter word building tiles, a first step in word creation.” “Big Letter Bananagrams” is being added, too.
The library is located at 17 N. Broadway and is open to the public Monday – Thursday from 9:30 a.m. – 8 p.m. and Friday – Saturday from 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
