St. Paul’s okays clinic land sale
At the July quarterly meeting Sunday night, the voters of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in New Ulm approved by a two-thirds majority the sale of one acre of land to an association of New Ulm medical doctors and also okayed the purchase of nearly one acre of land from School District 88 of New Ulm.
This approval means the merger of nine local doctors into one medical clinic will become a reality.
The doctors plan a building addition on the present New Ulm Medical Center building at Center and Garden. That addition will use up part of the present parking lot. The St. Paul’s playground adjoins the medical center property and the doctors asked to purchase one acre for building and parking needs.
St. Paul’s was approached by the doctors with this proposal: sell one acre of land on the north end of the school property to the doctors and in turn the school district will sell nine-tenths of an acre on the south border of the St. Paul’s property. The public school land is north of Jefferson school and north of so-called School Street, which now is a service road to the Jefferson building.
St. Paul’s will receive $35,000 for its acre of land and pay $31,500 for the .94 acre on the other end of the property St. Paul’s plans to add the near acre to its playground.
Recently, the public school board okayed the sale of the land to St. Paul’s congregation.
