The DII Southwest Sub-State, East Senior Legion Sub-Sub State Tournament and the DII Southwest Sub-State, East Junior Legion Sub-Sub State Tournament begin this week, with the senior legion slated to begin first on Thursday.

SENIOR LEGION

Sleepy Eye and Springfield received the top two seeds, respectively, in the Southwest Sub-State, East Senior Legion Sub-Sub State Tournament, giving them Thursday off. No. 4-seeded St. James, which will host the Southwest Sub-State Tournament, plays at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the first round of sub-sub state action against No. 5-seeded United South Central. No. 3 Mankato will host No. 6 Truman at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

The winner of the St. James-USC game will play top-seeded Sleepy Eye at 11:30 a.m. Friday in Sleepy Eye in Game 3 of the tourney, while the winner of the Mankato-Truman game will play second-seeded Springfield at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Game 4.

The loser of the St. James-USC game will play the loser of Game 3 at 7 p.m. Friday night in Sleepy Eye in Game 5, while the loser of the Mankato-Truman game plays the loser of Game 4 at 4:30 p.m. Friday in Sleepy Eye in Game 6.

The tournament concludes Saturday with the championship game (Game 8) at 1 p.m. to determine the No. 1 and 2 East seeds to advance to the Southwest Sub-State Tournament. A consolation bracket championship game (Game 7) will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Sleepy Eye to determine the No. 3 and 4 seeds from the East to make the Sub-State tourney.

St. James hosts the Southwest Sub-State tourney July 16-18 and July 24-25.

JUNIOR LEGION

The DII Southwest Sub-State, East Junior Legion Sub-Sub State Tournament begins Sunday in Wells, with No. 1-seeded Sleepy Eye earning a first-round bye. No. 4-seeded St. Clair will play No. 5-seeded United South Central to open the tournament at noon on Sunday, with the winner playing Sleepy Eye at 2:30 p.m. Sunday for the No. 1 East seed in the Southwest Sub-State tourney. The loser of that 2:30 p.m. game will take on the loser of the St. Clair-USC game in a 5 p.m. game Monday in Wells, with the No. 3 seed from the East in the Southwest Sub-State tourney on the line.

Meanwhile, No. 2-seeded Springfield hosts the East Sub-Sub State tourney for seeds 2, 3, 6 and 7 and starts Sunday with a bye. No. 6-seeded Madelia will play No. 3-seeded Lake Crystal at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, with the winner playing Springfield in a 5 p.m. game Sunday for the right to the No. 2 East seed in the Sub-State tourney. The loser of that 5 p.m. game will play the loser of the Madelia-Lake Crystal game at 6:30 p.m. Monday in Springfield, with the winner of that game earning the No. 4 East seed in the Sub-State tourney.

Ruthon hosts the Southwest Sub-State tourney July 19-21 and July 26-27.
