Area roundup: Sleepy Eye Jr. Legion shuts down Marshall

SLEEPY EYE 10, MARSHALL 0 (6 INNINGS)

MARSHALL — The Sleepy Eye Junior Legion baseball team shut out Marshall 10-0 on Tuesday in a junior legion baseball game.

The game ended in six innings due to the 10-run lead rule.

Derek Wales led Sleepy Eye at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a walk and an RBI, while Merrick Mathiowetz was 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs and Adam Braulick was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Tyler Sellner and Eric Lozano each had a double also, with Sellner driving in a run.

Wales also got the pitching win, going all six innings and allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out eight.

VFW BASEBALL

MARSHALL 6, SLEEPY EYE VFW 0

MARSHALL — The Sleepy Eye VFW baseball team fell to the Marshall VFW Orange 6-0 on Tuesday in a VFW baseball game.

Sleepy Eye was held to two hits in the opener as Jalen Brandl and Mason Mathiowetz each went 1 for 3. Mathiowetz took the pitching loss also in four innings, allowing seven hits and a walk for six runs, five earned, while striking out three.

MARSHALL 10, NEW ULM 0 (5 INNINGS)

MARSHALL 11, NEW ULM 1 (5 INNINGS)

MARSHALL — The New Ulm Junior Gold had a tough Monday as the Marshall Junior Legion swept them 10-0 and 11-1 in a junior legion baseball doubleheader.

Both games ended in five innings due to the 10-run lead rule.

New Ulm was held to one hit in the first game, a single by Miles Castleman, who went 1 for 2. Evan Starke drew two walks also for New Ulm. Miles Castleman took the loss in 3 1/3 innings, allowing five hits and a walk for seven runs, four earned.

In the second game, the Gold got four hits. Trevan Thordson, Miles Castleman and Tanner Kissner each went 1 for 2 for the Gold, while Owen Castleman was 1 for 3. Paxton Johnson took the loss in two innings, allowing seven runs, four earned, on five hits and four walks while striking out two.
