MADELIA — The Sleepy Eye VFW baseball team walked away with a 14-5 win over Madelia Junior Legion on Monday in a VFW-Jr. Legion Baseball crossover game.

Sleepy Eye had seven hits in the game and drew nine walks.

Jalen Brandl was 3 for 4 with a walk, two RBIs and three runs scored to lead Sleepy Eye, while Cooper Walter was 2 for 5 with two RBIs and Caiden Helget had two walks. Brandl also got the mound win in six innings, allowing three hits and three walks for three runs, one earned, while striking out eight.

Trevor DeCann was 1 for 3 with two walks and an RBI to lead Madelia at the plate, while Bradyn Grev was 1 for 2 and Chris Ibeling was 1 for 3. Carter Stensrud had two walks and an RBI also for Madelia. Grev took the loss in four innings, allowing three hits and five walks for seven runs, three earned, while striking out two.

Sleepy Eye is now 6-3 on the summer and plays at Marshall in a 5 p.m. game Tuesday.
