NEW ULM — Minnesota Valley Lutheran fell to Le Sueur-Henderson 3-0 and 6-5 in a South Central Conference baseball doubleheader on Thursday at Mueller Park.
In Game 1, Jensen Gerdts and Blake Sexton each had two hits to lead the Chargers in the loss. Kaden Peterson had a solid day on the mound, but an early error hurt the Chargers and allowed a pair of unearned runs to score in the third.
Peterson allowed three runs, one earned, on seven hits and two walks in a complete-game effort. He struck out eight.
Brody Berndt got the win for the Giants in Game 1, allowing seven hits and two walks while striking out nine. He also was 3 for 4 with a triple and a run scored to lead the Giants at the plate.
In Game 2, Kyan Kube was 2 for 3 with a triple and an RBI to lead the Chargers at the plate, while Aiden Eckberg and Josh Vander Plas each had a hit and an RBI.
Left-handed pitcher Jacob Kramer took the Game 2 loss in 7 1/3 innings, allowing 10 hits and two walks for six runs, five earned, while striking out one.
Berndt got the Game 2 win also on the mound for the Giants in 2/3 innings of relief, allowing no hits, walks or runs while fanning one.
With Game 2 tied at 4-all after seven, MVL took a 5-4 lead in the eighth when Brennan Bendix scored from third on a wild pitch. The Giants got the run back in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single from Evan Hoffman before Colton Wilson scored on a passed ball. Hoffman finished going 2 for 3 with two RBIs for the now 14-5 Giants.
MVL falls to 9-9 on the season and host Springfield at 5 p.m. on Monday at Mueller Park.
Springfield 11, JCC 0
JACKSON — Springfield shut out Jackson County Central 11-0 in six innings on Thursday in a nonconference baseball game.
Jackson Ludewig led the Tigers in the win at the plate, going 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI, while Madden Lendt was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Russell Beers was 2 for 3 with three runs scored. Adiel Trevino also had a hit and three RBIs for Springfield.
Kade Nachreiner got the win in six innings of work, allowing five hits and a walk while striking out eight.
Springfield (14-4) is at Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Monday.
Lester Prairie 12, GFW 8 (Game 1)
Lester Prairie 11, GFW 1 (Game 2, 5 innings)
FAIRFAX — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop suffered a sweep to Lester Prairie on Thursday in a Tomahawk Division baseball doubleheader, falling 12-8 in Game 1 and losing the nightcap 11-1 in five innings.
In Game 1, GFW was led at the plate by Layton Uecker-Hamre, Kaden Rieke and Cole Kemkes, who all had a hit and drove in runs. Uecker-Hamre and Kemkes each had two RBIs, while Rieke had one RBI.
Uecker-Hamre took the loss in 4 1/3 innings, allowing 11 hits and three walks for nine earned runs while striking out four.
In Game 2, Uecker-Hamre led the GFW bats with a double, while Owen Swenson scored the lone run. Swenson also took the loss in 2 1/3 innings, allowing four hits and five walks for six earned runs while striking out three.
GFW (5-14) awaits playoff seeding.
Luverne 10, Sleepy Eye 5
SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye fell to Luverne 10-5 on Thursday in a nonconference baseball game.
Landon Wendinger went 3 for 4 with a double and four RBIs to lead Sleepy Eye at the plate, while Cole Eckstein was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Cody Schultz took the loss in four innings, allowing seven hits and three walks for seven earned runs while striking out one.
Sleepy Eye (9-9) hosts St. Clair on Monday.
PREP SOFTBALL
New Ulm 19, Marshall 1 (4 innings)
MARSHALL — New Ulm cruised by Marshall 19-1 in four innings on Thursday in a Big South Conference softball game.
Miley Flor got the win for New Ulm in three innings, allowing one hit and one walk for one run while striking out three. Megan Brudelie pitched an inning with three strikeouts and one hit allowed.
Gracie Baker was 3 for 4 with a double and five RBIs to lead New Ulm at the plate, while Berkley Wilfahrt was 3 for 4 with three runs scored, a double and an RBI and Maddie Backer was 2 for 3 with a homer, a triple and three RBIs. Kenzie Enter was 3 for 4 with a double, three RBIs and two stolen bases also for New Ulm, while Ramsey Hopp was 3 for 4 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI and Lauren Schmiesing was 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.
New Ulm is scheduled to host Hastings on “Autograph Night” at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
Nicollet 12, Cleveland 2 (5 innings)
NORTH MANKATO — Nicollet powered past Cleveland 12-2 in five innings of a Valley Division softball showcase at Caswell Park on Thursday.
Jazmyn Goettlicher was 2 for 4 with two homers and six RBIs to lead Nicollet, while Zoei Rengstorf was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs and Taylor Wilking was 2 for 3 with a double and Madison Kettner was 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Chloe Kachelmeier was 1 for 1 with three walks, an RBI and two runs scored. Leah Bode got the win in the circle in five innings, allowing five hits and a walk for two earned runs while striking out six.
Nicollet (12-6) awaits playoffs next.
Madelia 16, ACGE 1

SEARLES — Madelia ran past Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons 16-1 in four innings of a Valley Division softball game.
Madelia scored 14 runs in the fourth to end the game early due to the 15-run rule lead.
Lauryn Grev was 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs to lead Madelia, while Libby Jensen was 2 for with four RBIs and Veronica Ibeling was 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Payton Bruns was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI also for Madelia, while Makayla Sorenson was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI.
Madelia (5-14) awaits playoff seedings next.
JCC 12, Wabasso 1
JACKSON — Wabasso fell to Jackson County Central 12-1 in five innings on Thursday in a nonconference softball game.
Macy Rohlik had Wabasso’s lone hit in the game, while Kayleigha Johnson added an RBI. Aylah Jenniges took the loss in the circle in three innings, allowing four earned runs on 10 hits and two walks.
Wabasso (13-5) awaits playoff seedings next.

MANKATO — The Minnesota Valley Lutheran boys defeated St. Clair 175-181 on Thursday in a South Central Conference golf meet at Terrace View Golf Course.
St. Clair won the girls side 193-228.
The boys co-medalists were Nathaniel and Philip Lukasek with 42s, while MVL also saw Cooper Pavelchik shoot a 45 and Owen Birkholz shoot a 46.
The girls tri-medalists were St. Clair’s Celia Johnson, Rachel Annman and Adyson Fox with 48s. The MVL girls were led by Eden Grubbs, who shot a 52, while Annika Lowery shot a 53, Emma Beussman shot a 58 and Carmella Joshi shot a 61.
