ARLINGTON — A wild night of racing provided extra thrills and spills for the fans Saturday night at the Arlington Raceway.
It started out in the first feature of the Jack Pines Resort IMCA Hobby on the on the second lap when the 53 of Travis Koester broke his trailing arm and rolled over. He was OK but his car received substantial damage. At the same time, Carter Holmquist’s rearend broke sending him to the pit area. As the cars lined up again, coming out of Turn 4 the cars of Ben Davis, Chad Volk and Scott Porter making contact on the front stretch with Davis and Porter ending up in the pit area. Two laps later Taylor Manderfield was driving out of Turn 2 and spun around causing his car to land backwards on the infield tractor tire. He then restarted the race in the rear of the race. While all the extra mayhem was happening, Chad Volk and Austin Jahns were both charging to the front of the field with Volk leading the way but as the checkered flag was thrown, Jahns managed to pull out ahead of Volk and claim the win for an exciting finish.
Justin Schelitzke led most of the Coors Light Sport Compact feature but not the lap that counted as Nate Coopman made the trek to the racetrack and started in ninth place and was able to take the lead after a yellow flag came out when the 7F of Neil Forsberg stopped off of Turn 2. Coopman zipped by Schelitzke but found himself trailing the following lap. As the checkered flag came out, Coopman regained the top spot and won with Schelitzke trailing him and Gary Schumacher following in third.
There were three leaders in the caution free Olson Snowplowing & Lawn Care Outlaw feature. Cory Probst led nine laps with Mike Vogt following him. Then Vogt found a groove in the track and got around him for the next five laps. Once again on the last lap hardcharger Karl Hewitt hammered down and passed Vogt on the last lap to win the race. Vogt was able to hold on for second ahead of Probst.
Bryan Spaude was finally able to finish a race in the Arlingotn State Bank IMCA No. Sport Modified feature after a few weeks of breakdowns. He led the early laps with Cole Hesse challenging him for the lead. After five laps, Eric Larson tapped in and was able to make moves to pass both cars in one lap putting him in the front. Hesse tried several moves to overcome Larson but in the end had to settle for second behind Larson. Joey Reimers was able to take the third spot from Spaude at the end as well.
Anderew Allen won his second Rice Companies IMCA RaceSaver Sprint feature as he led from the start for the duration. There was a yellow flag thrown on the first lap of the race when Brayden Allen came out of Turn 2, spun around and landed on top of the infield tire. Andrew once again stayed on point and had a commanding lead ahead of his dad, Brett who had passed Jeremy Schultz and was working on Andrew but he settled for second place behind Andrew. Schultz finished third.
Dan Menk was fast and the early leader of the Ottomotive Tire & Repair IMCA Modified feature but Clint Hatlestad was on the move quick from his rear start. He was just waiting for an opportunity to get around Menk and he got it on Lap 5 when Jason Schroeder had troubles on the back stretch trying to pull into the infield but couldn’t quite get there, so a yellow came out.
Hatlestad then got his opportunity as he manufered by Menk on the back stretch to take the lead away but Menk wasn’t giving up as he tried to strike again. They were threading through lapped traffic and Hatlestad was able to gain distance on Menk. The last few laps both Matt Looft and Chad Porter gained spots as Menk fell back a couple at the end. Neither one of them had enough to power up to Hatlestad and he went onto win.
The B&B Racing Chassis IMCA Stock Car feature saw some carnage. Ryan Grochow and Garett Uecker were leading the field around the track for two laps and then coming out of Turn 4, Garett got sideways and collected both Matt Schauer and Matt Speckman on the front stretch with no where to go. They were all out of the race with substantial damage to their cars. On the restart, Grochow again led the field but hardcharger Dan Mackenthun had gained eight spots in the previous lap to take command of the race. For the remaining laps, Mackenthun and Trent Loverude traded spots and moved through traffic. Loverude nosed his way to the lead as he passed Mackenthun on the bottom of Turn 3 as the white flag was being displayed but by the time they got into Turn 1, Mackenthun had the lead again and stayed ahead of Loverude to win for an exciting finish. Brent Uecker and Daniel Eckblad were also in the mix at the end as well.
