Area roundup: Cedar Mountain tops MVL in conference play
PREP VOLLEYBALL
Cedar Mountain 3, MVL 0
MORGAN — Cedar Mountain swept Minnesota Valley Lutheran 28-26, 27-25, 25-18 Thursday in a Tomahawk Conference volleyball match.
Aubrey Steffl led Cedar Mountain with 13 kills and 15 digs, while Hailey Hollar had 10 kills and 11 digs. Kendra Erickson added four kills and 11 digs for the Cougars.
Ava Munsen had a volleyball triple-double for the Chargers, posting 11 kills, 11 digs and a school record-tying 10 blocks. Gabbie Bleick had seven kills and eight digs, while Kerigan Brau had 34 set assists and eight digs. Jenna Bates added five kills and five blocks.
Cedar Mountain (9-3, 3-1) hosts Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City on Monday. MVL (4-9, 2-2 plays in the United South Central tournament on Saturday.
GFW 3, Springfield 1
SPRINGFIELD — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop topped Springfield 20-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-15 Thursday in a Tomahawk Conference volleyball match.
Taylor Schafer had 16 kills for the Thunderbirds, while Marti Jacobson had nine kills and three blocks. Katelyn Beranek added 17 set assists and 11 digs for GFW, while Halle Bleick had seven kills, nine digs and two aces.
No stats were reported for Springfield.
GFW (3-5, 1-4) plays in the Sibley East tournament on Saturday. Springfield (1-9, 0-4) hosts Red Rock Central on Friday.
BLHS 3, St. Mary’s 0
SLEEPY EYE — Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart swept Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 25-4, 27-25, 25-19 in a Tomahawk Conference volleyball match on Thursday.
Jenica Schroepfer had nine kills for the Knights, while Reese Hoffman had six kills and eight digs. Josie Helget had 18 set assists and 12 digs for St. Mary’s, while Addie Hoffmann added 15 digs.
St. Mary’s (6-6, 1-4) hosts Le Sueur-Henderson on Monday.
Wabasso 3, Sleepy Eye 1
WABASSO — Wabasso downed Sleepy Eye 25-19, 25-17, 24-26, 25-20 in a Tomahawk Conference volleyball match on Thursday.
Alivia Olson led the Rabbits with 14 kills, six aces and three total blocks, while Avery Carlson had seven kills, 16 digs and two aces. Sara Carlson had 36 set assists for Wabasso.
For the Indians, Kadence Hesse had 14 kills, 12 digs and eight blocks, while Paige Haala had nine kills and 14 digs. Brea Mertz had seven kills and seven digs, while Lydia Helget had 31 set assists.
Wabasso (12-5, 5-0) hosts BLHS on Thursday. Sleepy Eye (10-3, 3-1) travels to Springfield on Tuesday.
PREP CROSS-COUNTRY
Springfield/CM girls team takes 5th at Glencoe
GLENCOE — The Springfield/Cedar Mountain girls cross-country team took fifth and the boys team took seventh at Glencoe on Thursday.
Katie Thram finished 13th for the girls with a time of 22:16, while Skyla Dauer finished 20th (22:33). Matt Greobner finished eighth for the boys (18:22), while Bryan Buerkle finished 20th (19:35).
