Backer shuts out Hubmen, Eagles win 2-0
JORDAN — Tanner Backer’s complete-game shutout led the New Ulm Eagles to a 2-0 win over the Jordan Hubmen on Friday in a nonconference baseball game.
The left-hander struck out 10 in his seven innings on the mound, allowing just three hits and one walk.
Ryan Rathmann led the Eagles at the plate, going 2 for 3 with an RBI, while Candon Briggs doubled, Zach Hubbard was 1 for 3 with a walk and Owen Castleman was 1 for 3.
New Ulm scored right away in the first inning when Hubbard, who led off with a walk, ended up scoring on a passed ball. The Eagles added another run in the fourth when Rathmann’s line-drive single to center field scored Cohen Domeier, who was running for Backer.
New Ulm, now 5-1 on the year, is at Fairmont on Monday.
