NEW ULM 22, WORTHINGTON 5 (5 INNINGS)
WORTHINGTON — New Ulm rolled by Worthington 22-5 on Thursday in a Big South Conference softball game.
The game ended in the fifth due to the 10-run lead rule.
Gracie Baker was 4 for 5 with a double, a triple, four runs scored, three RBIs and four stolen bases to lead New Ulm, while Lauren Schmiesing was 3 for 5 with four runs scored, three RBIs and four stolen bases.
Natalie Fischer went 2 for 3 with a triple, two runs scored, three RBIs, one stolen base and one walk also for New Ulm, while Maddi Olson was 2 for 3 with a double, three runs scored, two RBIs, one walk and one stolen base.
Miley Flor got the win, pitching two innings and giving up three hits and two walks for two earned runs while striking out two.
Megan Brudelie pitched two innings, giving up no hits and one walk with three strikeouts also for New Ulm, while Leigha Sandmann pitched one inning, giving up no hits, one walk and adding a strikeout.
New Ulm moved to 3-2 with the win.
WABASSO 10, ST. MARY’S 9 (GAME 1)
ST. MARY’S 9, WABASSO 4 (GAME 2)
SLEEPY EYE — Wabasso and Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s split a Tomahawk Division softball doubleheader on Thursday, with the Rabbits taking the first game 10-9 and the Knights finishing with a 9-4 win in Game 2.
Wabasso’s Game 1 win came with a comeback, which included two runs in the fifth to tie it and one run in the sixth on a single by Camryn Irlbeck to take the lead. The Rabbits were led in that game by Sara Carlson, who was 3 for 5 with a double and an RBI. Delaina Eis was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI also for the Rabbits. Eis got the win in three innings, allowing one hit and a walk for no runs while striking out one.
The Knights were led in Game 1 by Audra Hoffmann, who was 3 for 4, while Taylor Mathiowetz was 2 for 3 with three RBIs, Sidney Tauer was 2 for 4 with a triple and an RBI and Eva Schweiss was 2 for 4 with a triple and an RBI. Natalie Zarn took the loss in 2 1/3 innings, allowing three hits and no walks for one unearned run while striking out three.
In Game 2, the Knights were led by Mathiowetz, who was 2 for 4 with an RBI, while Tauer had a hit and three RBIs. Zarn got the complete-game win, allowing six hits and three walks for three earned runs while striking out two.
The Rabbits were led in Game 2 by Macy Rohlik, who was 2 for 4 with an RBI, while Audrey Johnson was 2 for 4 and Eis added a hit and two RBIs. Eis took the loss in Game 2, pitching 6 1/3 innings and allowing nine hits and five walks for three earned runs while striking out four.
St. Mary’s moved to 2-3 on the year, while Wabasso moved to 5-2.
SLEEPY EYE 22, GFW 6 (4 INNINGS)
SLEEPY EYE 13, GFW 0 (4 INNINGS)
WINTHROP — Sleepy Eye swept a Tomahawk Division softball doubleheader against Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Thursday, winning 22-6 in Game 1 and 13-0 in Game 2.
Both games ended in four innings.
Taylor Berkner pitched 3 1/3 innings in Game 1 for the win, allowing two hits and no walks for one earned run while striking out eight. She also was 3 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs, while Mia Walter was 2 for 3 with three RBIs and Jaelynn Schauman was 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs.
In Game 1 for GFW, Addison Donnay took the loss, allowing 10 hits and 17 walks for 12 earned runs while striking out three. Karli Hartmann, Donnay and Ella Nachreiner each had a hit for GFW, with Nachreiner adding an RBI.
In Game 2, Callie Evers led Sleepy Eye with two homers and four RBIs, while Berkner was 2 for 3 with a homer and an RBI, Lexi Hoffman was 2 for 3 with a homer and three RBIs and Jaelynn Schauman homered and drove in two. Berkner got the win again in four innings, allowing no hits, two walks and striking out four.
Micahl Nachreiner and Madalyn Hartmann took walks for GFW in Game 2, with Ella Fitzpatrick taking the loss in 3 1/3 innings, allowing 12 hits and three walks for seven earned runs while striking out three.
Sleepy Eye moved to 7-1 on the year with both wins, while GFW dropped to 0-5.
PREP BASEBALL
TCU 10, SIBLEY EAST 4
ARLINGTON — Sibley East fell to Tri-City United 10-4 on Thursday in a nonconference baseball game.
Ben Fredrichs took the mound loss for the Wolverines, allowing six hits and two walks for six earned runs while striking out four in 3 2/3 innings. Landon Friedrichs was 2 for 2 with an RBI to lead Sibley East at the plate, while Carson Schmidt and Nathan Schauer each doubled. Henry Ott and Will Feterl also each had a hit and an RBI for Sibley East, now 4-2.
PREP GOLF
HOFFMANN PLACES FOURTH AT TRUMAN MEET
TRUMAN — New Ulm Cathedral’s Emma Hoffmann led the Greyhounds girls team with a fourth-place finish at a prep golf meet on Thursday.
St. Clair won the girls side of the meet (200), followed by Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther (216) and Cathedral (240). Cathedrals Cora Dagel tied for 11th individually (60), while Peyton Weisbrich placed 14th (64) and Megan Fingland took 15th (67).
St. Clair won the boys side of the meet as well (162), followed by GHEC/T/ML (180) and Cathedral (207). Carter Wilson and Andrew Bentler led the Cathedral boys individually with a tying 12th-place finish (49), while Jack Griebel placed 14th (51) and Carsten Haala placed 18th (58).
