NU Gold takes two from Forest Lake

NEW ULM — Twice Friday night, the New Ulm Legion 18U team won games in its last at bats.

A Mason Cox fly ball with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning scored Teddy Giefer from third and capped a four run inning as New Ulm edged Forest Lake 4-3 in the nightcap.

Jackson Bode got the win for New Ulm in relief.

New Ulm trailed Forest Lake 3-0 going into a shortened five inning game when they rallied.

Singles from Sam Keckeisen and Isaiah Miller proceeded a three run home run off of he bat of Nolan Drill to tie the game.

Teddy Giefer doubled before Cox lifted a fly ball towards first that was dropped by Forest Lake first baseman Brad Radke with Giefer scoring the winning run.

In the first game, Tony Geiger’s one out single in the bottom of the seventh highlighted a two-run seventh inning and a 6-5 New Ulm win.

Sam Keckeisen got the win in relief of starter Teddy Giefer.

Cole Ranweiler, Mason Cox, Jace Marotz and Keckeisen each had two hits with Cox driving in two runs.

New Ulm, which hosts Sleepy Eye Wednesday night at 6 p.m. at Johnson Park, scored two runs in each of the first two innings.

Doubles from Ranweiler and Jackson Bode and a Mason Cox infield single gave New Ulm a 2-1 lead.

Forest Lake plated four runs in the second inning for a 5-2 lead but New Um cut the lead to 5-4 in the second before tallying two runs in the seventh. Drill was hit by a pitch before Tedd Giefer reached on an error. Mason Cox singled forcing Forest Lake to intentionally walk Jace Marotz to load the bases before Geiger singled in the winning run.
