ARLINGTON — The air was chilly but the racing was hot at the Arlington Raceway for the Broadband MN, 220 Repair and EJ’s Bar & Grill Night.
There were two different leaders in the Jack Pines Resort IMCA Hobby feature. Mason Goettl led the race for the first seven laps from his pole position start. A yellow flag came out on the first lap as cars collided which put both Brad Becker and Ben Davis to the rear of the field. By the fifth lap, Cory Probst had moved up five spots to challenge Goettl. By Lap 8, Probst took the lead from Goettl and stayed the leader to win his first feature of the year. Goettl picked up his best finish of second and Austin Jahnz took third.
David Marshall won his first feature event in the Coors Light Sport Compact race as the top four cars raced wheel to wheel for three laps when Gary Schumacher got a flat tire and caused a yellow flag. On the restart, Alan Lahr took over the lead but just two laps later Marshall gook it back with Lahr trying unsuccessfully to regain the top spot. Marshall crossed the line first, Lahr in second and Dale Gatton took third.
There were two different leaders in the Olson Snowplowing & Lawn Care Outlaw Hobby feature as well. Cody Flewelling was the leader of the first lap with Aaron Simons right behind him. By the third lap, Karl Hewitt Jr. had moved up seven spots to take over the race and work around lapped traffic to win the race and claim a clean sweep for the night. Mike Vogt took second and despite engine troubles, Mark Oestreich took third place.
Ben Reierson had pole position for the start of the Arlington State Bank IMCA No. Sport Modified and led the race for the first five laps, with Broddy Enter passing six cars to take the lead from Reierson. Soon Eric Larson was in the mix as well, the three cars raced side by side for several laps. By the 10th lap, Enter gained a bit of distance when lapped traffic became a factor. In the end, Enter won the race with Larson able to get around Reierson and to claim second with Reierson taking third.
There was also a clean sweep in the Rice Companies IMCA RaceSaver Sprint class as Brett Allen won his head and feature. Andrew Allen started up front and was wheeling his car around the track in great form until he hit the inside berm in turn two, which caused him to shoot up and fall off the track on lap five. A yellow came out and he started in the back of the field. That set up Brett to take the lead and he never looked back as Bill Johnson tried to close the gap on him but he was busy holding off son Matt behind him. They finished the race with Brett Allen winning his first feature of the year, and the Johnson’s going second and third.
The Ottomotive Tire & Repair IMCA Modified feature was led by three different drivers with Jason Schroeder taking the first lap honors from his pole position. By the second time around, Matt Looft got by Austin Hamre and Trent Loverude to take over the top spot. He was able to hold on for eight laps until Brandon Beckendorf once again powered his way around the track to get around Looft while gaining distance with lapped traffic a factor. In the end, Looft took second and Clint Hatlestad moved forward four spots to take third place.
There were three different leaders in the B&B Racing Chassis IMCA Stock car feature with Ryan Grochow leading the first two laps and then Ken Tietz who started in the second row got around Grochow to take over the race. By lap seven Matt Looft was leading in his 6-7 car. Behind him there was a battle royale between Dave Moriarty, Dan Mackenthun and Curt Lund. In the end Looft won his first feature with Moriarty taking second and Mackenthun making a last lap pass to gain a position ahead of Lund.
