Cathedral c-squad wins Springfield tourney

The New Ulm Cathedral C-squad softball team went 3-0 at the Springfield Tournament on Saturday, May 9. They defeated Sleepy Eye St Mary’s in their first game 14-0. Avery Fischer, Brielle Neubauer, Noelle Foster and Autumn Neubauer each went 2 for 2 at the plate. Avery Fischer earned the win, giving up one hit, zero runs in three innings, striking out eight and walking one.
Cathedral moved on to face Tracy-Milroy-Balaton, winning 11-2. Kinley Berdan collected three hits in three at bats in the win, with one of them being a home run. Isabelle Forstner also hit a solo home run. Noelle Foster and Abby Forstner each went 2 for 2 at the plate.
Cathedral moved on to defeat Windom in the championship game 6-3. Avery Fischer struck out 12 batters, gave up three hits and three runs over four innings while walking one. Cathedral got on the board in the first inning after Isabelle Nosbusch stole home to score one run. Windom took the lead in the bottom of the second inning 2-1. Cathedral flipped the game on its head in the top of the third, scoring five runs on three hits to take a 6-2 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a sacrifice fly by Fischer that drove in two. Isabel Nosbush, Kinley Berdan, Leah Franta and Isabelle Forstner each collected one hit for Cathedral. Fischer and Forstner were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Cathedral. The tournament won brought the c-squad team to 13-0 for the season.
