Eagle gymnasts top JCC

NEW ULM — The New Ulm gymnastics team picked up a 137.15-129.175 win over Jackson County Central at the New Ulm Area Gymnastics Academy on Thursday night in a Big South Conference meet.

The Eagles, the East Division champions in the conference, remained perfect on the season at 10-0 with the win in their final regular-season meet of the season.

New Ulm head coach Kortney Peterson said that she was most happy with how her team performed in the floor exercise.

“I would say our floor was probably our best performance of the night, it’s actually a team cumulative total high for us for best score on the floor,” New Ulm head coach Kortney Peterson said. “We had pretty good bars and vault, too, a little rough beam, but they managed to stay good on every other event.”

Kayla Goblirsch led the way for New Ulm with a top all-around score of 36.925. She also finished first in the vault (9.525), first on beam (9.575), first on floor (9.375) and second on bars (8.45).

Also for New Ulm, Ella Freiderich finished second all-around with a score of 34.975, taking first on bars (8.5), second on floor (9.325) and third on beam (8.725). Anna Schwartz took second in the vault (8.675) for New Ulm, while Madison Miller took third on bars (8.125) and Emily Guggisberg took third on floor (9.05) and fourth in the vault (8.55).

Fromt the start of the season to now, Peterson said that the team has made improvements in more areas than one.

“We’ve really solidified the new skills that they were working on,” Peterson said. “You can see on floor definitely from Ella Freiderich, whose floor score has gone up a few tenths from the beginning of the year. And even though it wasn’t our best beam night, we’ve actually had some of our highest beam totals as a team throughout this year as well. So beam and floor are definitely where we’ve filled in some of the gaps.”

The Eagles next travel to Worthington for the Big South Championship at 2 p.m. Saturday.
