• Rummel proved to be too tough to handle as he scored four touchdowns in a 42-6 victory over Russell-Tyler-Ruthton on Saturday. The Tigers (9-0) advanced to Friday’s Section 3A championship game and will play Martin County West for the right to represent Section 3A in the state tournament.

• Rummel, who had an ankle injury in the last regular season game of the year against New Ulm Cathedral, looked strong as he led a Springfield rushing attack that tallied 302 yards against RTR. Rummel had 13 carries for 116 yards and his teammate Kadin Johnson rushed for 179 yards.

“Mason Rummel is a gamer,” Springfield coach Bob Fink said. “He plays the game of football with enthusiasm and passion. He has had an incredible career with 1,800 yards rushing and 340 total tackles.”
