NEW ULM — Sixty volunteers came to Turner Park early Saturday to set up, operate and take down the 4th of July party.

“We’re so thankful for our volunteers that are here morning, noon and night. It’s a busy day,” said Turner Hall Executive Director Andrea Boettger.

She said many sponsors helped make it happen. Donors helped with the cost of the bands. Proceeds will go for the Turner Gymnastics program and to Turner Hall projects and maintenance.

Boettger said the 4th of July in Turner Park party included a variety of people.

“There’s a lot of people setting up grilling, tending bar, helping with merchandise and taking it down,” said Boettger. “We’ve been doing this for more than 150 years. We’re still getting better at it.”

She said a number of new things were added at Turner Park this year including more kid’s entertainment including a sprinkler, rock and face painting, tatoos and Wanda Gag House staff working with kid’s activities.

Outdoor activities included music from Adam & The Jammers, the Wendinger Band, Concord Singers and 3 Hour Download from 10:45 a.m. to 8 p.m.; a food tent with hotdogs, burgers, root beer floats, a beer garden, kid’s area, popcorn, ice cream cart, cigar lounge and merchandise.

Despite the warm weather, many people were under large shade trees in Turner Park, often on their own folding chairs.

Indoors, the Turner Ladies Pie & Ice Cream Social was held in the Founders Room. and silent auction. A silent auction was also held.

Starting at $4.65/week.
