Walter leads Sleepy Eye VFW by Madelia in rout

SLEEPY EYE — Cooper Walter racked up five RBIs and pitched five innings to lead the Sleepy Eye VFW baseball team by Madelia Junior Legion 17-2 on Wednesday in a VFW-Junior Legion baseball crossover game.

The game ended in five innings due to the 10-run lead rule.

Walter finished 3 for 4 with two doubles and his five RBIs, while Anden Braun was 2 for 2 with two walks, two RBIs and three runs scored, Miles Pelzel was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and Ryder Braun was 2 for 3 with two doubles and an RBI. Jalen Brandl was also 2 for 3 with an RBI and three runs scored for Sleepy Eye, while Caiden Helget was 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Walter got the win in five innings, allowing six hits and three walks for two earned runs while striking out four.

Miah Garza led Madelia at the plate, going 2 for 3, while Jackson Martinez was 1 for 2 with two RBIs. Garza took the loss in two innings, allowing eight hits and four walks for 10 earned runs while striking out four.
