Prep roundup: Springfield stays hot, wins 6th straight game

PIPESTONE — Springfield scored four runs in the first inning and held on to defeat Pipestone Area in a nonconference baseball game on Monday.

Justin Haugo earned the win for the Tigers. He went five innings and allowed two earned runs on seven hits. He struck out three and walked one.

Offensively for the Tigers, Decker Scheffler went 1 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored. Hunter Mathiowetz, Mason Rummel and Mitchell Leonard all had a hit with Rummel and Scheffler each picking up a double.

Springfield (14-3) has won six straight and will host Windom at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

New Ulm 12, Hutchinson 2,

HUTCHINSON — Hunter Ranweiler and Andrew Peters each had three hits and three RBIs as New Ulm crushed Hutchinson in a nonconference baseball game on Monday.

Ranweiler and Sam Berg each had two RBIs. The Eagles finished with 10 hits and they scored two runs in the first and five more times in the second inning to break the game open.

T.J. Sweere earned the win. He went 3 1/3 innings and allowed two earned runs and five hits. Braden Zimmerman pitched the final 2 2/3 innings.

New Ulm (16-2) is at Mankato West on Wednesday.

Boys’ golf

New Ulm 6th at Big South meet

WASECA — The New Ulm boys’ golf team finished sixth with a team score of 341 at the Big South Conference meet on Monday.

Blue Earth Area won with a team score of 312, followed by Jackson County Central (328), Worthington (330), Marshall (331) and St. Peter (333) to round out the top five teams.

Glavine Schugel led New Ulm with a 76 and Matt Janke shot an 85.

Girls’ golf

New Ulm girls 7th at Big South meet

WASECA — The New Ulm girls’ golf team finished seventh at the Big South meet on Monday with a team score of 411.

Abbey Frauenholtz led the Eagles with an 87 and Izzie Wolkow shot a 99

Springfield boys win meet

MORTON — The Springfield boys’ golf team won a meet at Dakotah Ridge Golf Course on Monday. Springfield had a team score of 329, followed by Sleepy Eye (345), Cedar Mountain (366), Wabasso (398) and Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart (463).

Springfield’s Mavrick Winkelmann took medalist honors with a 75, followed by teammate Mason Kretsch (76), Sleepy Eye’s Ben Laffen (78), Sleepy Eye United’s Toby Weiss (87), SEU’s Andrew Neid (89), Springfield’s Tim Rogotzke (89) and Springfield’s Christopher Thram (89).

On the girls’ side, none of the teams had complete teams. Springfield’s Makenna Winkelmann led the way with a 90 and BLHS’s Audree Ginsburg shot a 93. SEU’s Ashtyn Tauer (97) and Springfield’s Anna Plotz (97) rounded out the top scorers.
