NEW ULM – The New Ulm Area Foundation (NUAF) awarded $15,000 to the New Ulm Downtown Action Team in support of the Community Collage project.

The project is a partnership with art photographer Josh Madson. New Ulm will host a photoshoot at Sweet Haven Tonics Sunday, April 28th, from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Everyone in the community is invited to participate. The purpose of this project is to capture a snapshot of the New Ulm community celebrating the heritage of all community members. The $15,000 grant from NUAF will cover the cost of Madson’s photo shoot.

NUAF director John Illikman said the collage project will have an impact on arts and economic development in New Ulm. In addition to the collage of photographs, the project will include a long-term outdoor installation and a documentary of the New Ulm filming day to be shown at the upcoming Twin Cities Film Festival in St. Louis Park Oct 17-26.

Illikman said the grant was made possible in part by a donation from the Scandia Foundation to NUAF’s fund named in honor of Bill Macklin, former editor for The Journal.

During the photo shoot Sunday, the Downtown Action Team will be accepting additional donations for the second phase of the project, which includes installation of the collage somewhere in New Ulm.
