Area Roundup: Springfield boys move on in 2A; Nicollet ends season with loss

SPRINGFIELD — Top-seed Springfield continued its winning ways with a victory over Truman/Martin Luther/Granada Huntley/East Chain on Tuesday in the quarterfinal round of Section 2A South subsection boys’ basketball game.
Decker Scheffler led the Tigers with 24 points and eight rebounds. Tanner Vogel had 20 points and Isaac Fink added 19 points with nine rebounds.
Springfield (26-1) will face Waterville-Elysian-Morristown at 6 p.m. on Thursday in Lake Crystal.
MLA 84, Nicollet 62
MOUNTAIN LAKE — Mountain Lake Area downed Nicollet on Tuesday in the quarterfinal round of the Section 2A South subsection boys’ basketball tournament.
Ean Thomsen led Nicollet with 31 points, Ben Bode added 8 points and Anthony Macias scored 7 points.
Nicollet finishes its season at 14-13.
Mayer Lutheran 85, Sleepy Eye 44
MAYER — Top-seeded Mayer Lutheran crushed Sleepy Eye on Tuesday in the quarterfinal round of the Section 2A subsection North boys’ basketball tournament.
Zach Haala led Sleepy Eye with 12 points.
Mayer Lutheran will face Cleveland at 6 p.m. on Thursday in St. Peter. Sleepy Eye ends its season with a 12-16 record.
Cleveland 73, CM/C 68
CLEVELAND — Cleveland defeated Cedar Mountain/Comfrey on Tuesday in the quarterfinal round for Section 2A North Subsection boys’ basketball game.
Eli Samuelson led the Cougars with 22 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Dylan Hillesheim scored 18 points. Trey Peterson-Juhl had 11 points and Lewis Pendleton added 10 points with nine assists and four blocks.
CM/C ends is season 18-9. Cleveland faces top-seeded Mayer Lutheran at 6 p.m. on Thursday at St. Peter High School.
